He is keeping his cell phone on and on the charger; so I've been calling his cell phone. He can't really reach the room phone.

Call the nurses station. Repeatedly if necessary. Tell them you need an update. If he doesn’t like you calling them, he’ll get over it. You are concerned and that’s normal!

I hope that everything is ok. I know sometimes the phones don't work or they get unplugged. I know someone that kept getting of all things scam calls in the hospital so they unplugged it.
