I went down.

Today I fell. I’m not given to falling, nor do I welcome it. Last time I fell was about 10 years ago taking a short cut through an unlit car park on a cold winter’s night that was so deep, and I tripped over a brick. I suffered bruising and one of my thumbs now looks younger than the other because the skin is pulled tight on it. Falls can’t be laughed off so easily as the years roll by. In those of advanced years a fall can be so shocking and destabilising. It can rob a person of their confidence and can even mark the beginning of the end. That’s what happened to my father and Leonard Cohen. But I have successfully recovered from my tumble with only my dignity shaken. I slipped on wet decking when I was tidying up the garden and it was quite sore at the time. I must be more circumspect when walking in wellies in the future. Are you a circumspect walker?

I am glad only your dignity was shaken. You are right, a fall can mark the end. That happened to my grandma too. Please be more careful.

Glad you were not seriously hurt and I hope you feel better soon, I am careful when I walk around the apartment and when I go out if I am buying anything I take a cart to hold onto and also have a four pronged cane,

Oh no! I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. A fall can set ya back. I fell a few years ago and twisted my shoulder. Ugh! Not fun at all.

The last time I fell down two months ago. I sprained my right knee and can still feel the localized pain.

I have fallen a few times either by tripping over my cats or not walking properly with my slippers on due to the front part of the slipper causing me to fall down and having some trouble getting up due to my 63 years of age..

I'm so glad you weren't seriously injured. I watch every step I take. I use a cane; but if I fall, I can't get up. Have a good weekend.

@lindaoh Yes, it’s not just that going down that’s problematic but also the getting up.

@xFiacre That's for sure. I'd have to call 911.

Yes rather, and especially on wet wood. Our garden has some wooden sleepers as edging in various places; it was even used to make a set of steps (this was all put in before we bought the place). When wet those sleepers are more slippery than ice! I replaced the wooden steps with brick but the other bits are still there, we just have to be careful to step over them! Anyway glad you are OK.

I do try to 'watch my step'. I'm supposed to be osteoporosis-prone and my balance isn't as good as it used to be. So I do watch where I go.
