I won't be here much tomorrow

I won't be here much tomorrow. I have a train to catch! Eight of us are travelling to Dwellingup in Western Australia. In the evening, we’ll be boarding a train and having dinner on board while it goes a certain distance then returns. We’re staying the night in the town and returning home Sunday morning. It used to be a steam train but I think now it will be diesel because of the risk of bushfires and probably just the convenience. Volunteers run the train and they are all elderly. Cranking up a steam engine calls for a lot of effort, not to mention expertise. Hopefully, I'll have some photos to show on Sunday or Monday.

Me too but the diesels don't seem to have the same romanticism (or the coal dust) of the old steam trains. lol

@JudyEv I know! When we went on a steam train trip back in the spring I actually fell in love, before I could never understand the fascination but now I really get it!

Now let me see if I have understood You are boarding a train. It goes a distance and then returns. You eat your dinneer in the train. What do you see in that distance. Is that the purpose of the travel or just a train experience?

Yu make it sound pretty boring!! The train will go through some pretty countryside, we'll be with good friends and expect to have a good time. I guess it's just something a bit different.

Lots of our towns, especially in WA, have '-up' at the end. I think it's supposed to mean 'place of water'.

I like the Aussie accent and the way they inculcate the word 'mate' in every conversation.

I wasn’t here at all tomorrow. Or was it the day before? I love steam trains, so I’d be disappointed if it was a diesel. We have lots of heritage railways here in the UK running steam trains. Like yours, they are mainly run by elderly volunteers. I think that’s when things started going wrong - when they got rid of steam trains. Have a nice trip. Woo Woo! Diddly Dee Diddly Dum!

@JudyEv Don’t worry, nobody ever does. We don’t have the worry of bushfires over here, so it’s full steam ahead!

I didn't notice you missing tomorrow. It was diesel. We're into summer here and everyone is paranoid about bushfires.

@jobelbojel Do you ever travel by train in the Philippines? I think you do but I've forgotten. You have a long journey by train I think to get to your workplace.

This one toddled along at 12 mph. However, it had been built in the early 1900s.

I do love these heritage lines, although not a train person myself. There is a steam engine and rolling stock not from me, at Southall. It is not unusual to see it go hurtling by puffing away

Steam is just something else but our train was diesel. Too much risk of bushfires for steam at the moment.
