Does the statement "the best things in life are free" resonate with you?

I used to hear from my lovely mother that there is no free in this world anymore. Although she still emphasized that there are some things in this world that can be attained without doing hard work, and that is to spread love and kindness to others. It does make sense when it comes to knowing the real essence of this proverb.
Is it a true statement?
What comes to mind when reading this proverb?

kindness to others can go a long time when it's given right
or taken the way it's given, it goes both ways. But if I give
& the other just takes without giving back that's not right.

@Shavkat That's why we don't have any friends cause it was all
take & not giving back so we just don't bother having friends.

i understand it in a way that not everything we're giving has to be materialistic. sometimes the things that are free - like kindness and caring - can mean much more to someone than just the things you can buy with money.
