Hmmm, must be “Bobby” day. Today’s country song was written by a man named Bobby, and waddaya know, today’s song from the “Hot 100” list was also written by a Bobby. (That’s a name, not a policeman in England. ) Here’s today’s song from the list. Things - Bobby Darin Apologies for anyone who thought this might be the 1981 Joe Walsh song. Yes, it’s Mr. Walden Robert Cassotto, back again (he was on the list earlier with “Dream Lover”). With the way that rolls off the tongue, it’s a good thing he took a stage name, isn’t it! I was wondering why no one had covered this in country, because it has such a country music theme to it. I actually remember Dean Martin covering it on his “country” album, Dean “Tex” Martin. Ah, a look at the Whitburn shows that Ronnie Dove did cover it in country in the mid-70s. It made the top 30 and was his biggest “hit.” It doesn’t matter who covered it, this was Bobby Darin’s song through and through. Things Written by Bobby Darin Recorded by Bobby Darin From Things and Other Things, 1962 Peak chart position: #3 Today’s country song: “Tippy Toeing” Heartaches are the friends I’m talking to:

Did you mean Beyond the Sea? The Sea of Love reminds me of Benny Hill’s Garden of Love.

Love this one! My aunt had all these old classic albums and I loved to go over to her house. She always had one playing in the background! Great memories!

One thing I remember most about one of my babysitters was her record collection.

@FourWalls That used to be such a big thing! I lost all of mine when I lived in an apartment and did not have rental insurance when I was 18. The upstairs apartment had a leak and it came right down into my closet and ruined most of my album covers. Boo!

Oh wow, I didn't know about the JC show, just Ed Sullivan, the Smothers Brothers, Red Skelton show, Dean Martin Show and Flip Wilson show, those were some really old ones. Ed Sullivan was the best of em all. Figured you like em too so I thought you'd like to see this. The video is really good.

Those variety shows are where I learned about people like Ed Ames as a singer, Englebert Humperdink, Jack Jones, and so many other crooners. Then you had things like The Johnny Cash Show, where he wasn’t afraid to include people like CCR and Bob Dylan!!!
