There’s a wild wind out there.

And is it ever howling! It started ithe big gusts about 3PM, but no rain or snow. But it got windier. About8PM it got crazy out there. Winds in huge gusts, a tree fell on a house a few blocks away, limbs everywhere. When I’ve looked out the window, I have seen all manner of things fly down the street in the wind. Big rolling trash cans, the occasional flower pot, a lawn chair. Oh, I saw a Wilson basketball, remember Wilson in Cast Away? Anyway the ball was on my lawn and not moving,I decided I would go out and get it. I opened the door and it took flight, down the street. Still very windy. But at least it isn’t slinging little ice balls everywhere like it did earlier. When the ice hit earlier it sounded like a huge roar. It won’t melt tonight, it’s currently 7 below zero wind chill. I would have much preferred a softly falling snow over that horrible ice!

Well, I’m an American, and I grew up here, it’s a big country. And so spread out that there are states that can be extremely hot, and others with a very short warm season. I’m used to it, but like everywhere on earth, it definitely has it’s good and it’s bad days for weather!

@MarieCoyle American climate issues 1. Drastic hurricanes. 2. Drastic tornadoes. 3. Drastic forest fires. 4. Drastic snow storms. 5. Drastic heat waves 6. Drastic cold waves 7. Drastic earthquakes 8. Drastic landslides 9. Drastic floods Sigh 9 reasons I will not think of America ...as my destination. Apart from high cost of living of course. You my friend are a brave girl. :)

@vandana7 Vanny, it’s not really weather, but add typhoons and sink holes to the list. And I survived Mt. St.Helens…does that count?

Ugh ice is the worst. Winds abated here a bit. Not sure what is happening tomorrow. I do know it will be warmer by Sunday.

You are right, no one wants a sheet of ice to walk on. We will warm up Sunday, too.

We are getting a storm here this weekend. It’s called storm Darragh and the winds could get up to 80mph, with plenty of rain. I know it’s nothing in comparison to the weather you get in the US, but for our small isle, it’s created an amber alert. I remember Wilson from Cast Away. I wondered what had happened to him. I mean it.

@MarieCoyle Yeah, he was a volleyball. It’s an emotional scene when Wilson drifts off…… Wilson, I’m sorry!

@Orson_Kart I agree. Talking to Wilson kept him going and helped him through loneliness. When Wilson drifted off, he truly did feel completely alone.

My son informed me that I am wrong, Wilson was a volleyball, not a basketball. I knew that....the ball was white. I had a DUH moment, I guess. You got my interest about Wilson in the movie, so I looked it up. It seems they were unable to save Wilson, and he is now in the bottom of the Pacific...RIP Wilson. That storm sounds just horrid, 80 MPH winds, wow! Batten down the hatches, double check everything, and stay inside! Be safe!

We had that wind overnight. Everything looked good here this morning. We didn't get any ice at least

The roads were treated and that helped a lot. But oh, that wind was wicked!

@wolfgirl569 I am not a fan of having to drive on the interstates when it's super windy--I have seen too many semi trucks flip over in winds. Son has two appointments tomorrow, and I am happy the wind won't be an issue.

We're under a gale warning and lake effect s**w warning here. Am already tired of all the s**w and cold. I'm ready for spring. Have a good day.

@MarieCoyle I don't know how people can survive that are homeless in this cold. My heart breaks for them.

Since spring is a long way off, I try to just be content for now. I think about some of the homeless people and I feel very fortunate that I have a place to be and I have a furnace and lots of blankets. I love warm blankets. I am sorry about the gale warning. Glad you have that generator to kick in if you need it!! Take care of yourself!

I just don't like ice. I can drive on it for the most part if I have to, but I can't get out of the car and walk on it, I don't want to fall.

@mariecoyle We’re in for a windy few days too. I’m just not putting my trash can out for my trash to get blown all round everyone’s garden. Hope the neighbours do likewise.

When it's really windy, my big trash can comes in to the garage. I don't want to chase it down! Not many do that, though. They just whine when it blows away.
