A Final for 2024

Good afternoon myLot friends. It has been a melting kind of day here in my neck of the woods. All of that awful snow we've had, which seems like it is piled everywhere you look, is shrinking. I like that. Tomorrow is our Moments that Matter Day, which is what they call the 1 day per month that you have to go into the office to work. The 12th and last time this year. They are giving us an additional 30 minutes for our lunch, so we will have a full hour. They are having a turkey dinner catered in for us. Since I start early, my breaks and lunch are early. I have no intention of eating turkey at 11:30 in the morning. That doesn't sound very appealing to me. I will take the elevator down to the mezzanine and myself scarce for an hour or so. I will likely stop at the Tim Hortons downstairs and treat myself to a coffee. Wi will do this quietly, just because I don't find a huge turkey, dressing, mashed potato and gravy meal in the middle of a working day unappealing, doesn't mean that some of the others will feel the same way. I don't and won't ruin it for them. Parking at the towers is a hefty $17 and I can only imagine they will round that up to $20 come next month/year. Yikes.

I would totally eat that stuff at 11:30am. My usual lunch time at work is 10:30am. I eat it all at that hour--a sandwich, a salad, Chipotle, pizza, whatever. Bring it on.

Too heavy for me at that time of the day, plus I still have to work another 3 hours after lunch break is over. I'll disappear for a while very quietly.

I would also avoid to eat turkey at 11:30 am, not very appealing to me too. May be some of your colleagues will enjoy the turkey, but I would do the same, a coffee and, may be, a pastry. Parking in the city has become very expensive also here.

I went with 2 co-workers, and only took a small plate, and from that I ate a dinner roll and a little brownie. It was suffice, and we had a nice little visit together. I received notification from my current manager regarding my bonus which comes next month and my new salary for 2025. I was disappointed to see the numbers, but I worked for a terrible manager and she weighed heavily on that. At least it will only be 1 year and then it will increase at a good amount again. I ran into my very first, and favorite manager, Christine, today. She was waiting to get on the elevator as I was exiting it, lots of hugs and well wishes, she said that she'd call me tonight.

@LadyDuck Yes, she called last evening, it was so nice to chat and laugh with her. She is such an amazing person. I was aware that I would take a hit for working under that other manager, but by changing teams I knew that it would only be 1 year's loss, but now I am rebuilding going forward.

@Juliaacv - I am sorry to read that you are disappointed about your bonus and salary increase. I am sure that for 2026 it will be a lot better. You have been lucky to meet Christine, I hope she is going to call you soon.

That is nice of them. Everyone has a different way of doing things and different things they want. Is that price for parking a daily one or what?

@Juliaacv ......Thank goodness. I think you should buy a parking garage. You'd make lots of $$ and never have to work again. Just park cars. 17x20 would be 340 and if you only had 10 cars park there each day for a month that would be $3,400.00.

@celticeagle Yes, that is the parking rate for a full day. Thankfully, I only have to work at the office 1 day per month.

As much as I like all that food it would be too early for me to enjoy it too. Hope you enjoyed your Tim Hortons and some quiet time. I'll add a yikes to those parking fees too

I actually did go to the meal. I took a plate that I had them put very little on. I ate a roll and a brownie. I had a great visit with 2 co-workers.

@Marilynda1225 I saw my very first manager. I had to go over to Tower B for lunch and that is where she works, and she was waiting for the elevator when my friends and I arrived on the 15th floor. It was nice to see her, and get a hug, she is an amazing co-worker and friend.

There are other places to park, where you are 15 or 20 minutes walking in the dark in a poor section of the city carrying your laptop, so technically I could save $11 each time I park, but my own safety is worth that to me, plus the time that I save. I arrive early, just after 6am, and it is still dark and not a safe place to be wandering alone.

That all sounds yummy to me even at 11:30. $17 is atrocious for parking. Have a good week.

I wish that I could just take half of it mid day and then leave half an hour earlier.

If it is free, maybe you could take your portion to go. It might taste good as lunch another day.

If I were single I would consider doing that and taking it home for supper. It is too heavy for me on a mid day meal is all. But they do not offer any take aways at all. The caterer actually supplies the china plates and real silverware, not disposable.

I wouldn't worry about it until it happens. At least you're not doing this daily.

I eat a very small dish, about the size of a fruit nappie, for my breakfast cereal with fresh sliced strawberries and milk for breakfast, and then not another bite to eat, by choice, until lunch, which is always very light. I just will not have the stomach for it.

As I think it through, if I am unable to sneak away, then I will have to take a small plate, although they always serve them heaping full. I just will move things around on the plate to look like there had been an attempt to eat it, but I cannot eat such heavy food at that time of the day. And it is mild here today, and it will no doubt be very warm at the office, which isn't good either.

I could park further away but walking in the darkness for 15 or 20 minutes before I start work, at just after 6am, isn't safe to do alone in that area of the city.

Yeah, parking is insane downtown. And it is in such a seedy area of the city. I always worry about one of the homeless wandering around the parking lot and hitting some of the cars with their grocery carts. Our SUV is black, and that shows every scratch imaginable.
