Duping the public

The photo has nothing to do with the post. It’s of two chocolate unicorns a friend gave me. A couple have been charged in South Australia for pretending their son had cancer and receiving $60,000 through government and GoFundMe payments. They shaved the six-year-old’s head and eyebrows, put bandages on his head and placed him in a wheel-chair. What a shocking thing to do. I wonder if they gave any thought to the impact on the child. Thankfully, the boy and his sibling are now in the care of a relative and the couple are facing court. It will surely mean that some who contribute to sites like GoFundMe will be less inclined to do so in future.

It's hard to believe they could treat their child in this way.

How could anyone do that to a child?? They deserve to be locked up. I hope they don't have any more access to their children at all. That sounds harsh, but people like them don't need to be around children.

I agree. With a bit of luck they'll go to jail. The sad thing is that the kids probably still love them and may not really understand it all.

That poor child did not mean anything to the so-called parents.

They go to court shortly. I hope they get punished in some meaningful way and aren't just slapped on the wrist.

Unfortunately it happens everywhere. Recently I saw someone who faked cancer to her own family/friends/public to get holidays etc. I think they must have mental health issues or just be stupid as they get caught out in the end.

@JudyEv I remember a person who said they were sick. No one believed her. One day, she suddenly passed. Now, we believed her but it was too little too late.

Yes, I've heard of people faking their own illness too. They can't be too smart really or, as you say, they have mental health issues. That's all we hear about nowdays - mental health. It's good it's recognised but it must be hard to sort the fact from the fiction sometimes.

There have always been con artists which is sad. It does make me a lot less likely to want to help on those sites as I am always skeptical if it is legit or not.

@JudyEv He will know the parents used him to collect money. The money meant more to them than the child did. That would be hard to live with.

This is why I never donate to things like Gofundme. Nothing against those who really need it, but scammers can scam a lot of money out of people before or even if they get caught.

@JudyEv And, I do. I question everything. I know there are people who need money for a lot of reasons, for a lot of different things. But, if it's coming from the internet, because you don't know who or what's on ther otherside of the keyboard. We just know it's a person.

@judyev I know a girl who we all strongly suspect to be faking MS. She gets no state help or support from disability agencies so there’s nothing illegal going on. She’s clever enough to know that she’d need medical proof to make a claim - she does it for attention. She can’t get out of her wheelchair but I’ve seen her cleaning the upstairs windows and I’m not the only one to see her walking around shops. The MS was miraculously cured when her mother who she lives with was hospitalised and it was strongly suggested by the hospital that carers be brought in to look after her. Then she relapsed when mother recovered!

@JudyEv front car backed up and tried to make it an accident. the lady in the car would be guilty of the accident if she didn't have the dash cam to prove that she didn't hit the car, but that they backed up her.

Charity is for those who cannot earn for themselves. My Will therefore has charity for 1. Animals 2. Acid attack victims 3. Rape victims (1 child is picked every 8 minutes) 4. Spastics 5. Blind with no chance of repairing eyes/ repair the eyes of blind and stop assistance 6. Mentally challenged 7. People with motor neuron diseases, cerebral palsy etc. 8. Orphaned children who have neither parents with foster parents appointed to check on the children twice each year. 9. Short term assistance to victims of riots, terrorism and calamities - five years 10. Short term assistance to families of martyrs from armed forces, police force, forest officers, etc. - 5 years. 11 Financial assistance to Non profit organizations fighting cases of acid attack victims or rape victims 12. Financial assistance for medical treatment in all above categories. So each category will get around 5000000 INR... which will be invested with proper trustees. LOL In addition to above, I am writing a sum equal to 10000000 for food donation to the poor...again invested with proper trustees. I agree that our hearts are moved by children with cancer and all that...but there is only so much we can do. People need to plan for their health and their family's health, their old age, their children, education of their children, etc. There are avoidable problems so I don't see why I should be dragged into it.

@JudyEv Our court case which has been running for the last 35 odd years in various courts...is now on the verge of clearing. I am told I will get that much and maybe slightly more net of taxes. If I do get slightly more, I would add eunuchs and transgenders to the list. It is not much Judy...but enough for some people to be safe for a long time after I am gone. 750000000 That is what I am looking at...hopefully. Nothing from existing financial structure. So it won't pinch me Judy because I am already not really using that money even now, am I? Of course, it is Will, so as long as I am alive returns will be with us, and I can provide Dad better care perhaps and do some charity.
