The most wanted Christmas gifts?

Did you ever wonder what most people truly want for Christmas?
No, this isn't about some of us wanting better health for ourselves or a loved one, or a ridiculous list like a trip around the world or a new car, or a new home. It's just about basic gift-giving.
I read an article today about this.
It seems that the 3 most wanted gifts are cash, clothing and/or shoes, etc., and gift vouchers for things they need (gift cards, pre-paid Visa cards, etc.) It was also stated that this year, many people requested food, or grocery cards to get food.
Honestly, I never really gave it much thought, as most of us try to ask what someone would like or give something we think they would. I'm not surprised that money takes the first spot on the list.
If you could pick a ''regular gift'' to request, would you pick cash? If not, what would you like to receive?

@MarieCoyle Seems I’m not alone.
I always thought of cash as a gift of last resort. Looks like I was wrong. Who wants an unwanted present? Silly me!

It is nice to be able to get exactly what we want, although opening gifts is fun, too.

I guess cash or anything that equates to money (like any of those gift cards) would be much appreciated. But honestly, I don't think I could ask for it or tell anyone that. These days I'm all for no gifts . . . not meaning bah humbug but rather an experience like time spent together . . . coffee and a chat?

@MarieCoyle And it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to give such a gift .

No, it doesn’t. Some people never think about a gift of time, which can mean so much.

Cash is always good. Right now. I'm glad I'll be spending Christmas at home with my husband.

I guess I should have been more specific, I meant that it was good that you are at your own home, together, this year.

It's hard for me to see my youngest girl now. With the son needing care, I cannot go that far now to stay for a time like I used to. And we both always cry when our time is up. I totally understand how you feel.

@MarieCoyle I knew that if I only put 1 item on my list that I would catch it from my son, so I added the books.
He never asked for a thing, but today I had a brand new, huge sized, black dryer delivered to their home.
They need that large size as they are a family of 4 and their old dryer was white and didn't match the new washing machine, and it was really on its last legs and I was always worried that it was costing him too much in hydro fees as it wasn't energy efficient.

I am sure the gift of a new clothes dryer will be much appreciated, it's hard to keep up with little ones and the laundry they create.

It certainly is, and a person can use it for what they need, or want.

Yes, I agree that cash and gift cards aren’t really personal. But they are practical, and at least something people want.

Flower pots and plant related items. Including some seasonal plants. A trip to my favorite green house would be good.

I think gift vouchers should be the thing as one can buy what they want with them.

It certainly eliminates a lot of work and shopping to give money. I know some people do not want to give money, but the upside of it is that it actually gets spent on something the person wants or needs.

i think that it's better to put some thought into gift and get something someone likes, it doesn't have to be big.
but if someone's in a bad financial situation, i think it's okay to give him cash.

@MarieCoyle that was smart
in Bosnia kids mostly save for driving license and drive parent's car. not everyone can afford their own car. driving license here costs over 1200BAM (640.16 USD). it might not seem like much, but for Bosnian standards it is.

I know it is very costly to drive in some countries, and to get a license. Here in the US, often things are far apart and cars are unfortunately necessary for most people.

Sometimes, a person might be saving for something special, like a car or a trip. I know from the time my kids all became young teens, they saved their birthday and any Christmas money in their savings account for a car.
