I think I broke her heart

I am feeling so guilty.
I feed a few stray dogs, of whom, I feed one quite regularly. 5 of them are fed on Thursdays...they know the score.
Two new additions are easier to feed the left overs because they stay closer.
So I went to my lady dog whom I feed regularly and I fed her fair number of biscuits. She sure was hungry and it feels good to see a hungry dog eat well.
I handed over few biscuit packets to a guy who is the building watchman for her, so that she gets her next morning food, and if I do not go in the evening the evening meal too.
I retained a few for the new kids on the block. As I was walking back, the princess (I call her that at times, but basically her name is Roxy), walked along with me. A few steps behind. I told her several times to return, but she continued to follow me.
I thought I managed to lose her, and then returned to these two new ones, who are actually fed by two kids around 10 and 15. I just hand over the biscuit packets to them, and they feed the dogs by hand.
I turned to find Roxy behind me, and these two dogs nudging me with their noses.
One of them barked at her, but I did not allow the issue to escalate.
And so.....she walked back, crestfallen.
They cannot tell what they feel. But I could tell, she was not happy.
I love her, but hey, all stray dogs quite a few of whom are abandoned, deserve some love, right?
How do you tackle this kinda feeling in "sorta pets"?

We don't have strays here, or not for long. The dog pound people pick them up as soon as someone talks about a stray. So we don't have a problem like that.
I'm pretty sure you're just an evil woman, vanny... One who likes abusing people and animals. Ask @TheHorse, I'm sure he'll agree with me.

@vandana7 Why not? She'd probably be easier to take care of than dad and she'd appreciate you more.

@wolfgirl569 Really bad....building rules do not permit taking in stray dogs, as if only stray dogs bite. I do love her Eva.

@vandana7 They are very loyal animals and very forgiving. We need to take lessons from them. Too bad you can't take her in.

As @DaddyEvil said, the dog pound picks up stray dogs. I would have a soft spot for any dog on the street. Dogs need and want so much love and attention. It breaks my heart to see dogs that are not cared for and are not lying on a rug in their owner's home, chewing on a toy. I wish I could rescue all dogs. What you are doing is wonderful. Have a good weekend.

Would I have to show her extra love? Because she is a stray dog, and middle aged girl, and well, not so good looking if I can say that. Her one ear is up, and second one is down... and before I took charge of feeding her, she was pretty thin - her ribs were showing... I do love her a lot...and am willing to be her sole property. If that is what it takes for her to be happy. I am feeling so guilty. :(

@Kandae11 She will always be my favorite. There is another girl among the five...she too is kinda devoted to me..jumps up places her paws on me to look me in eye...almost pleading to be taken away. I don't know...but I cannot...building rules do not permit stray dogs as pets. I am always heartbroken when I walk out on her.

@kareng He might freeze...and there might be fierce animals out there in the woods. Sigh...yeah...that is worrisome too. Mine is an abused and abandoned creature. Our building rules do not permit "stray" dogs as if we cannot tie down their mouths with those anti bite contraptions. Another aspect is my father's failing health. If things get worse, I will have no choice but to take him to an assisted living home, and live in the facility along with him. That means, my friend here will be abandoned again. As long as she is on streets, she knows, I am not there permanently in her life, and can console herself, with the truth..hopefully. If after taking her in, I have to leave her out, it will be terrible for both of us.

I wish you could adopt her, but I know that is not a possible situation right now. The life of a stray/street dog is tough - and I imagine they all go through such moments often. They are fortunate to even receive some biscuits from time to time. You're give what you can - sometimes that's all you can do.

Oh I would love to adopt her...really love to. The problem with her is, she doesn't like non veg. So cannot even feed eggs. I boiled egg and took for her, she just didn't eat. Only biscuits...over pampered girl. LOL I am hoping to gently steer her towards potatoes and carrots, etc.

@vandana7 I suppose she must be used to eating whatever her diet has been in the streets - even stray animals can be particular. Yes, she is a queen with biscuits , but a wider variety especially with vegetables and protein would be better for her.
