What about Christmas?

The world I grew up in has changed and it is so noticable as we enter the Christmas period and it's traditions. One of the exciting traditions used to be wandering around the shops and looking at the window displays that were on view. The large department stores and even the small shop windows would have some scene displaying their goods in a Christmas setting. A manger scene or at least just a manger was usual. Christmas stars were prominent, Carols were played in the shop and everyone knew that Christmas was about Jesus being born in Bethlehem. The shops still decorate but not with the Christian scene, not even a star appears. As most parents are not church goers and their children do not have the modern version of a Sunday School I wonder if they have any idea of why we celebrate Christmas.

I think most people don't care why we celebrate Christmas anymore... It is just a commercial holiday now. Long time no see. I hope you and your family are all doing well. Merry Christmas!

Christmas is so commercialised nowadays. It's great to see your name appearing again. I hope you're doing well.

I have wonderful memories of Christmas gone by, where we sang Christmas carols, not Christmas songs. We lit the Advent wreath and counted down the weeks and days until Christmas. Santa and the other was the side part of the holiday. Today it is centre stage, and few, if any, people actual recognize the meaning behind the entire season.

@41combedale Haven’t seen you here for a while - hello! I saw a totally non-religious shop display in Paris last Christmas. Huge and tastefully done but with no Jesus about it, just a winter scene. But some wise passer by had stuck a sticker on the window telling everyone that Christ the redeemer is born!!! I was so happy.
