Now that you know what #1 is (if you had any doubt to begin with), let’s get #2 out of the way. Nothing like celebrating people in songs, and our myLotters @JudyEv and @JStory07 deserve the accolades. And hey, when the king of rock and roll sings about you, you’re doing great! Here’s today’s “Judy” song.
#2: Judy - Elvis Presley
This gets bonus points because it is Elvis (but not enough to knock #1 off the perch ). This shows the power of Beatlemania, too. This was recorded in 1961. If it had been released as a single then it would have been a huge hit and everyone would know it. As it is, it wasn’t released as a single until 1967, and it bombed, peaking only at #78. Ouch.
This was written by and originally recorded by an Arkansas rockabilly singer/songwriter named Teddy Redell. His version wasn’t very successful, either. Too bad, because this is a really cool song. It definitely deserved better than to be forgotten by everyone except the most devoted Elvis fans.
Judy
Written by Teddy Redell
Recorded by Elvis Presley
From Something for Everybody, 1961
I promise always to be true:

Are you saying The Beatles have taken the #1 slot? That means my other guess hasn’t made it into your top ten!
I’ll let you know what it was on your #1 post. And to emphasise my disappointment
I’ve never heard Elvis sing this song, but like you say, it would have been a hit in ‘61. Great voice.

@FourWalls Ok, then it sounds like I only got 1/10 in the Judy bingo.

The Beatles?! They never did a Judy song. Oh, I guess “Julia” + “Jude” = “Judy,” but no.
Elvis was so good in that era.

@FourWalls Nope, in the midst of it all. Tornado warning until 9:45. We had some hail earlier and the rumble has been bad all day here. One more bad system to move through.

I never got into Elvis but I do get his appeal in those times, He was kind of the punk version of music in those times, something different no one else did.

With all of these Karen memes I have grown fond of being “Karen.” My server comes over and says their name and I reply, “Hi, I’m Karen, and I want to see the manager.” My sole good mention is in James Taylor’s “Carolina in My Mind” (“Karen, she’s a silver sun”).

I know, major bummer. “Going Home” on this album is outstanding, too.

He recorded so many things that a lot of his better songs are buried deep on albums.
