After the 100 favorite charted songs lists I was going to take a break from music for the rest of the year, because I figured you needed it. However, @JudyEv said she missed the daily dose of music, so I picked ten songs with “Judy” in the title. Poor @JStory07 is a “Judy,” too, so she has to suffer with these songs. But today it ends with the “Surprised? Anyone?? Anyone at all?!” song.
#1: Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - Crosby, Stills, and Nash
Ms. Judy Collins, would you enter and sign in, please! (That’s from What’s My Line.) This was written after Stephen Stills and Judy Collins broke off their relationship. And, Stills said, he wrote it backwards: not penmanship-wise, but he started the song with the break-up (“It’s getting to the point where I’m no fun anymore”) and ending with the beginning of the relationship (“change my life, make it right, be my lady”).
That’s one of the “odd” things about it. Also, consider that it’s seven and a half minutes long (the 45 was edited down to 4:35), which wasn’t very common for a song — let alone a love song. Despite that, those lovely harmonies of David, Stephen, and Graham turn this into one of THE signature songs of their illustrious career and one of the defining songs of Southern California “soft rock.”
Happy new year to Judy in Australia and Judy in Oregon, and thanks for the inspiration for this countdown. Happy new year to you all, and thanks for reading.
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
Written by Stephen Stills
Recorded by Crosby, Stills, and Nash
From Crosby, Stills & Nash, 1969

Me neither. I only got 1/10 in the Judy bingo.
I could be bottom of the class!

It’s one of those that was a “bathroom break” song for FM rock DJs in the 70s because it’s so long.

I’m in the “surprised” section, as I’ve never heard this song before!
Crosby, Stills & Nash weren’t big over here. Graham Nash is more associated with The Hollies who had lots of hits with and without him in the UK.
However, it’s a good song, and very in keeping with The Hollies style of harmonies.
The song that doesn’t appear in your top ten that I had in mind was this one. Only because it had Judy in the title and I couldn’t think of anymore. Quality isn’t great but it’s the best I could find on YouTube:

See, just like CSN in England, Cockney Rebel wasn’t popular here in America. And you thought we were just weird because we dropped the “U” out of all those words and call the boot of the car the “trunk.”

I didn't know it by the title; but yes I know this one well. Good harmonies. Have a good week.

Most people don’t know the title because they never say that in the song, and if they mentioned it on the radio you’d think of “Sweet Judy Blue Eyes” instead.

This is one of those where you never hear the title in the song, so a lot of people might not remember the song’s name!

As I said, I’m not that hard to figure out.
