Happy New Year everyone!
We had a good many loud poppers here in the city at my daughter's house and my granddaughter was super excited getting to stay up late. She didn't go to bed until almost 2 am. We pulled her out of bed around 11 am to watch the Rose Bowl Parade.
I hope everyone has a very nice and relaxing day with friends and family today.
I will be heading home in about an hour and stopping at one of my other daughter's house on the way home.
How were the fireworks at your house? I missed the quiet times at home last night. Some of these fireworks were super loud.

George and I saw the ball drop on t.v. last night. Neighbors were shooting off fireworks. I saw a few through our little sun window in our front door from the hallway. George didn't atempt bed until around 3 A.M. when things finally quieted down.

They were loud here, but honestly, only for about half an hour. There have been years where they’re still going off at 3 AM (and loud enough for the people in the pacific time zone to hear them as it turns midnight there).

@kareng — I was watching the coverage of New Orleans and remembered the year a bunch of us and half the band (the BoDeans) went through the French Quarter on New Year’s Eve. Another example of how that could have been me during my “wild” era.

We have spent a New Years in New Orleans in the past. But the last time we went there, it was...well, dirty and litter was building up, food trash, and rats visible on Bourbon street...um, no. I prefer to remember it differently.

Happy New Year.
I heard fireworks last night too, but I was tired and eventually drifted off to sleep.
I am watching television, and they have a special report on it regarding the horrific incident in New Orleans last night.
I am so very sorry that your state and your country is under attack.
Please stay safe, you and your lovely family. It is so frightening to watch and listen to what they are saying.

Thank you and Happy New Year to you and your family also!!
Yes, that was a very sad event. And goes to show you should be aware of your surroundings. I would never go to the French Quarter on New Year's Eve. It's not safe at any time, but with NYE, it is even more dangerous with all the partying going on.

@kareng I have never been that far into your country, and do not know your state nor the area.
I just feel so terribly sad for the families affected by the losses and the injuries and for those who witnessed what nobody should witness. I feel for the citizens who will have less police coverage as they are working in one specific area.
I worked at a place that opened an office in Lafayette and some of the managers went down there to open up the office and help them for the first month or so to get on their feet, and when they returned a couple of them loved it there so much that they told me that they kept in contact with the co-workers as they had become good friends during their stay. I do not know how close that city is to New Orleans, but I have always had a special place in my heart for your state and the people in it.

@Juliaacv Lafayette is about 95-100 miles away, not far at all. It's a cool city and boomed during the oil booming years. Lots lost their jobs during the Obama era when he shut down drilling and imported oil and a lot moved away. The city has grown a lot, more crime there now as well, and traffic is horrible during drive times. It's not the quiet little city it used to be.

There were a few fireworks in my neighborhood just after midnight even though the fireworks source may have been close to downtown,

Not as bad this year as years past. But then the main culprits next door moved out last August, so they are no more, Either way, we just had a quiet evening and heard a few fireworks off in the distance, but nothing nearby. Enough to make the cats a bit jumpy though. lol

I laid down to sleep at 11:50pm. I should have just waited the ten minutes, right? The fireworks went off, but I just kept laying there, and finally fell asleep. I had to get up to go to my sister’s at 6:45am so I didn’t want to be grumpy with my dad and his wife this morning. We had a great visit with her, her husband, and the kids. They opened presents they didn’t get to at Christmas because they had been sick.
Getting to stay up until 2am must have really made your granddaughter excited. When I was younger, I thought being up at that time was the best thing ever. As an adult, I just want to be snoozing at 2am.

Happy New Year!
Most of the fireworks displays were cancelled here due to the strong winds. I’m not a big fan of them anyway, so it didn’t bother me.
The ones around the world in the major cities were spectacular and good to watch on tv.

I too stayed upto 2am on the New Year Day. Usually stay upto 1 -1.30 am but this time styed bit more. However, there were no fireworks where I have come down for my holidays. Perhaps , the young crowd is less at the area where I stay. So it was more or less quiet and nothing super loud whatsoever . I did watch few programs in OTT and then went to bed. I would say it was muted welcome for me when it comes 2025. Hopefully things would be great in 2025 compared to 2024. Guess you and family had a great time welcoming 2025. Enjoy the time!
