Is It Hard To Load A Dishwasher?

It's me; I have been trying to restore order at the house today after being gone for 3 days babysitting my granddaughter.
I was actually shocked to see that my husband and finished unloading the dishwasher and had started loading the dishwasher back. Well, let's just say he tried. I have asked him before to please be a little more compact when loading the dishwasher. He spaces everything out and when loaded properly, you can get twice as many dishes in there.
That leads to my question of the day, "Is it really that hard to load a dishwasher?"
I have unloaded it and reloaded it now and added more dishes to it and it is still not full. However, it was half full according to his judgement. Do you know someone like this?

We hardly ever use ours. I think my husband used to load it quite well; and, of course, he was always right. lol Have a good weekend.

@LindaOH well I'm not one for wasting time or electricity, so filling it with 3 or more inches all around everything he put in there would be a waste of both! We would be running the dishwasher 3-4 times a day at that rate for 2 people. I only run 1 x a day and not every single day. If it is not full, I wait until the next day.

Well I think it depends on the dishwasher you have. And you can over fill a dishwasher believe it or not. Again, depending on what you load in it. Sometimes running a cycle at what seems half full is actually better than filling the dishwasher as full as it can go. Because you allow more water flow and the dishes get cleaner. If you load the dishwasher, and fin the dishes dn't seem as clean, maybe you've over filled it.

@kaylachan To me it is more of being wasteful vs. economical.

@kareng It might just be his style. I mean some believe in the less is more metholgy. Where others are of the opinion of making use of every square inch of space.

@1creekgirl I wonder why they state do not put in dishwasher? Detergent too harsh? They won't get scratched if loaded properly. Just curious as to why not put in the dishwasher?!

@kareng Our daughter gave me a very nice set of cookware for my birthday, but it's hand-wash, so that will be different, lol.

There you go! All men should do that so women have something to complain about!

For me personally, I like to think of it like a puzzle. Certain items and sizes go together in a certain place to maximize the load. They can't be layered too tightly or else they won't get washed properly. Oh but others in this house kinda willy nilly the placement - so the dishes and all aren't efficiently placed. Drives me nuts, so I often have to redo the puzzle before turning the dishwasher on.

I don't have trouble loading the dishwasher, except that sometimes I wind up with no room for some dishes even after I make it "compact"!

@xstitcher For real!! Why run it when you don't have to? If you need something in there before you run it, take it out and hand wash it. Problem solved!

@kareng I don't (and don't want to) run mine daily, either!

My husband is the same way.
He should unload it so that he can see how I stack it, that would help him, and maybe your should have yours do that.
My little twin granddaughters put their dishes and utensils in the dishwasher every day after they have lunch.
My hubs runs their dishwasher in the afternoon, and 1 of the girls will take out the items that belong in the lower cupboards and drawers and put them away while he reaches the higher cupboards.
She gets the meaning behind teamwork, I hope that she is always so helpful.

He used to unload the dishwasher for me, but he always put the coffee cups up wrong and stacked them where they would fall and could break. So he quit unloading the top with the coffee cups. He still does the bottom with all the plates and bowls. So he knows how it should be loaded, he just doesn't care I suppose.

Be happy your hubby tries to load the dishwasher. Pretty won't even try and just stacks dirty dishes on top of the dishwasher... Or used to before I just started washing everything by hand. We haven't use our dishwasher in years.
I do remember when I bought it that it came with a chart showing exactly where and how to load it. I'm sure you can find that chart online if you look and can show it to your hubby if you're really bothered by him not knowing how to do it correctly.

@DaddyEvil That's more work for me and the whole point of him having an "easy" job. I definitely do not want him cooking!

@kareng Just tell him not to bother trying to help you with dirty dishes and he'll stop. *shrug*

Both of my sons make me crazy with the way they load a dishwasher. My oldest son is the king of “no one can cram more in a dishwasher than I can!” It’s incredible how much he crams in there! And then my son here with me is the opposite. He just puts things in haphazardly and everywhere and anywhere. And then there’s me- everything has its place. The cutlery must be in the little slots, one area each for knives, forks, and spoons. The top rack is of course for glasses and mugs, etc. and the bottom for dishes and bowls. I am just as weird as my two sons are about loading it, just in a different way.

I agree that our way is definitely the best way! When all the kids plus a few extras were still at home, the dishwasher often ran twice a day. They don’t have to tell me their way is the best, I know it isn’t!
