Day 353 – Faithfulness
1 Chronicles 10:1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2 Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. The Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons. 3 The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him and wounded him. 4 Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore, Saul took a sword and fell on it. 5 When his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. 6 Thus, Saul and his three sons died, and his whole house died together. 7 When the men of Israel in the valley saw they had fled and Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; then the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 Thus, it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among the people. 10 Then they put his armor in the temple of their elohiym and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
11 When Jabesh Gilead heard everything the Philistines did to Saul, 12 the valiant men arose and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons; and brought them to Jabesh and buried their bones under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh and fasted seven days.
13 Thus, Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against JEHOVAH, because he did not keep the word of JEHOVAH, and because he consulted a medium for guidance. 14 However, he did not inquire of JEHOVAH; therefore, He killed him and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
Kurios – Supreme Authority
Iesous – Jesus
Christos – Anointed One, Messiah
God’s character:
Vengeance
Judge
People fight battles every day. Whether physical during wartime, or with each other, the outcome is always the same. You will always have winners and losers in the battle.
Israel fought the Philistines in a battle on Mount Gilboa, a battle JEHOVAH ordained to take vengeance on Saul because of his unfaithfulness. Therefore, the Philistines won the battle and JEHOVAH handed Israel over to David.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you committed yourself to obey Him and remain faithful to Him. However, the pleasures of life will cause you to stray. When you do, Yeshuwa will hand you over to Satan to draw you back to Himself.
1 Corinthians 5:1 It is reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife! 2 You are puffed up, and have not mourned, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you. 3 For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed. 4 In the name of our Kurios Iesous Christos, when you are together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Kurios Iesous Christos, 5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Kurios Iesous.
Yeshuwa doesn’t want to see His children sin, but when they do so willingly, He will allow Satan to come against them to bring them back into a right relationship with Him.
When you stop blaming Yeshuwa and Satan for the trouble you see in your life and take responsibility for your actions and repent of your sin, Yeshuwa will bring you back into a right relationship with Him.
JEHOVAH brought His vengeance and justice on Saul because of his unfaithfulness to Him. He did everything He told His people not to do. He didn’t keep JEHOVAH’S law and sought out a medium for guidance.
When you don’t read your Bible, you can’t know what Yeshuwa wants you to do. You can’t know His plans for your life. You can’t walk with Him in faithfulness. You are no more than a cardboard Christian. You look like one on the outside, but inside, in your heart where Yeshuwa sees, you aren’t faithful.
As you start a new year, commit to reading your Bible. Find a one-year reading plan and stick to it. Not only read your Bible, but study it so you will know Yeshuwa’s will for your life. Then Yeshuwa will not hand you over to Satan or bring trouble on your life because you are faithful to Him.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for giving me Your Word. Help me read and study it every day so I can know Your perfect will for my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
