Some of your mylotters are saying "We already knew that." . However, let me explain. Yesterday, I made a crazy crust pizza, which is easy to make, delicious and cheap as Hell. I don't know why I haven't made them more often. I was so impressed by it, I looked into a crazy chocolate cake. I remember my mom making one years ago. Although I believe she called it wacky chocolate cake. It calls for no eggs. It was a staple during the depression. There are also other "crazy" recipes. I am all in favor of foods that taste delicious you can make for pennies.

@shaggin FYI, I did make the cake today and its delicious.a fun and funny cake to make. I think we will probably need to make more of that kind of thing, if the bird flu really takes off. Eggs will probably be astronomical.

@akalinus I am not much of an egg eater, but I try to incorporate them into my diet at least once per week, as I am trying to get more protein. I don't really dislike them, it is just easier to eat other things that don't require much in the way of prep. However, I do really like those poached egg cups for the microwave. They make eating eggs a snap..if you so desire.

They are readily available online.Oh raise a point though. If eggs get to be 5 or 6 dollars a cartin, surely people will be using less of them.

@snowy22315 I guess it is possible to live without eggs. I do like eggs and toast sometimes.

Ohhhh, we made that "wacky" chocolate cake during the pandemic when we had to be home (I think there were a bunch of FB posts on old depression era frugal recipes at the time). I'll have to look up the pizza crust. I'm curious what other "crazy" recipes there are!

@rakski I made it today..it has vinegar and baking soda in it, which cause it to rise. I think Heather was referring to the pizza.

My recipe for a "crazy" cake is an old Weight Watchers one. Just a dry cake mix and one can of diet soda. Mix and bake. Comes out pretty good and I've done it in my bundt pan and in muffin tins.

I've made that too. I use a sugar free cake mix so the calories are minimal. I have even made doughnuts like that.

@snowy22315 it's a really good alternative when you're counting calories, etc. I like adding a dollop of cool whip to mine

Crazy crust pizza and wacky chocolate cake? That sounds like a fun and tasty trip down memory lane! It’s amazing how resourceful people were during tough times, creating recipes that are not only budget-friendly but also delicious.
I’ve heard about wacky cake before—it’s fascinating how it doesn’t need eggs but still turns out so moist and rich. I might just have to try making one of these crazy recipes myself. Thanks for the inspiration! ?? Enjoy experimenting, and keep sharing those awesome kitchen adventures!

So I searched the link and found the pizza. I notice it does not have any leavening in the crust. I would think it would be flat.

It's not very flat If you are concerned about flatness you could always use self rising flour
