Walmart Was Wiped Out

Even though many businesses were closed today, Walmart was still open, and we got a bit stir crazy despite multiple media calls for people to just stay home because of the winter storm.
We got about 5 inches. It was nothing. We're from Wisconsin, and sorry folks, but this was nothing more than a walk in the park.
We didn't really need anything, but there were a couple items on the list. But the place was wiped out.
The pork was completely gone. There was no bread. There were no broths. Beans and rice? Gone. Chicken? Wings anyone? Frozen pizzas? Nonexistent. Sugar and flour? Good luck. Milk? Two gallons left.
All I can says is thank you very much for the suckers and idiots who bought the store out needlessly. My dividends on my Walmart stock will be handsomely funded.
Are people serious?

You should know that happens any time a winter storm is predicted. Some people take doomsayers seriously and destroy the stores in their area.
I always hated the rush before a storm when I worked at Walmart.

@porwest They pulled everyone from all over the store to restock. We used to have to do that, too. I worked in Electronics and was only called to Grocery when things had been wiped out.

I remember one awful storm. We went to Walmart for water. They brought it out as fast as they could and it just kept disappearing. The line to buy it was long. They televised this and we were the last in the line they put on TV. We got a couple of cases and left the rest for others.
One pitiful old lady asked me why everyone was buying water. She thought it was on sale. I told her about the hurricane coming and she did not seem to understand. I hope she got some water. I know she was not capable of lifting those heavy cases. I don't know what happened to her. I hope she is fine.

I remember the "snowstorm of the century" in the 70s. School had just started. They told the kids that school is canceled for the day. Run home as fast as you can. Do not stop off anywhere. We expect a big blizzard. It is going to be the storm of the century.
The company sent my husband home from work. Many businesses closed for the day. They got everyone worried and scared.
I walked to the store to buy supplies and people were going crazy. Someone grabbed the last loaf of bread out of my hands. There was a standoff in the cupcake aisle. I got home just as my kids were running in.
It did snow. There was enough on the ground to make tracks when you walked on it. All that fuss for nothing.

What about water? Toilet paper? Eggs? Sold out too?
Five inches is nothing to worry about. How much was forecasted?

@porwest forecast wasn’t that far off. I’m surprised water was not sold out.

@lovebuglena It would have been something I'd have expected too. It normally is.

5 inches isn't a crisis here but unusual being right next to the Atlantic ocean. That keeps coastal temperatures warmer than inland even just 10 miles away. I wouldn't freak about 5 inches and anyway I am well stocked. Maybe I'd have to get toilet paper and paper towels.

Since the pandemic, people have bought stuff they don't need. They fear running out which is justified.
When the pandemic struck, there were no thermometers, masks, hand sanitizer, or cleaning supplies available. I was looking for bleach and spray guaranteed to kill 99% of the virus. I ended up making masks out of old but clean socks. There were mask-making videos on the internet.
It was a crazy time.

It's a vicious cycle. Look at all the food waste we had during the early days of COVID. There's so many people who needlessly panic.

@porwest Oh yeah. The media really knows how to trigger a person's fight or flight.

Glad to know they have still plenty of water...i saw your answer on the comment section.
I think the people started a panic buying.
I hope you'll get your supply very soon and stay safe always... And stay way from the cold weather.

@porwest Glad to know that. Stay safe and warm okay. Don't go out too much. I am not really into cold weather, I live in the tropical country, but the simplest cold make me shiver that is why I don't go out without my jacket.

Mine does. Although most of their meats and produce are more expensive than other places I go. Their pork steaks, at $1.94 per pound, are the cheapest I can get pork steaks anywhere except Schnucks when they have a sale on them that usually brings them anywhere between $1.49 to $1.69 per pound.

I can sympathise with you Jim. It is perhaps human nature to protect themselves in danger . There are very few who think of others when there is calamity. Bless the hearts who does think for others. But this one , was totally uncalled for. This is not pandemic and it is just winter storm. And having the entire Walmart wiped out is something I have not heard or seen before. And also as a shareholder , you can evaluate the business in that way and that should keep things going. Guess the local community need to think alot more for others. I bet the scnaerio would happen in most places but then small towns has always been an exception .
