Day 361 – Battle
1 Chronicles 18:1 After this David attacked the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines. 2 Then he defeated Moab, and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought tribute.
3 David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his power by the River Euphrates. 4 David took from him one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. David also hamstrung the chariot horses; except he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.
5 When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand Syrians. 6 Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants and brought tribute. Thus, JEHOVAH preserved David wherever he went. 7 David took the shields of gold on the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 Also, from Tibhath and from Chun, cities of Hadadezer, David brought a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and the articles of bronze.
9 Now, when Tou king of Hamath heard David had defeated the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah, 10 he sent Hadoram his son to King David, to greet him and bless him, because he fought against Hadadezer and defeated him (for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou); and Hadoram brought with him many kinds of articles of gold, silver, and bronze. 11 King David also dedicated these to JEHOVAH, along with the silver and gold he brought from these nations—from Edom, from Moab, from the people of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
12 Moreover, Abishai the son of Zeruiah killed eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
13 He also put garrisons in Edom, and the Edomites became David’s servants. JEHOVAH preserved David wherever he went.
14 Thus, David reigned over Israel and administered judgment and justice to his people.
15 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16 Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; Shavsha was the scribe; 17 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers at the king’s side.
God’s names:
JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal
Yeshuwa – Jesus
God’s character:
Preserver
Wars take strategy to win against formidable enemies. Much planning goes into every battle before it’s executed.
David waged war against Israel’s enemies. He never went into battle alone. He always relied on JEHOVAH and He preserved David in every encounter, defeating his enemies and causing them to pay tribute to David.
When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, Satan became your enemy and waged war against you. Yeshuwa is your Commander in Chief. When you seek Him to help with the battle you face, He will preserve you and defeat Satan on every front. Satan knows your weak points and will exploit them and try to cause you to rely on your own strength instead of trusting Yeshuwa for the outcome. When you rely on Yeshuwa in the same way David relied on JEHOVAH, you will always win the battle. You aren’t alone. Yeshuwa fights by your side and leads the way to victory.
What battles do you face today? Trust Yeshuwa for the victory. Your victory starts in prayer and Bible study. You won’t win any battles if you don’t seek Yeshuwa’s help. The only way to do that is to spend time with Yeshuwa every day. Not once or twice a week, but every day. Then you will recognize Satan’s tactics and can defeat him because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. Rely on Yeshuwa. He is ready and waiting for you to reach out to Him so He can help you in the battle and defeat Satan.
Let’s pray: Father, too often I rely on my strength to win the battle Satan wages against me. Help me. Stand by my side. When I spend time in Your Word, seek Your face in prayer, and let You go ahead of me into battle, let me see Satan defeated because I trust in You and not my strength for the battle. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
