What would you change about where you live?

I’d like to have brand new flooring in my bedroom and living room. Preferably not carpet, but since I’m on the top floor, they are always going to choose flooring that causes the least amount of noise. So carpet it will be. So what would you change about where you live? Your neighbors, the color of your house, the square footage? I’d also like hot water, but we’ve been over that.

I would really like to get my deck fixed so it is usable again. Maybe I will be able to afford to do it down the line

@AmbiePam Yes, the big problem with the deck though is that it gets so hot out there in the summer it is uncomfortable to use most of the time. It really needs to be screened in. The other thing, is if it is not too h hot, there seems to be trillions of flying insects around.

@snowy22315 I forgot about the insects. That’s a big nuisance.

When I used to watch home improvement shows it seemed so many people wanted their master on the first floor. People get tired of stairs.

@Marilynda1225 The older a person gets the more the person wants/needs a place to sleep on the first floor. We've put a fold out couch in my study down on the first floor so if need be we can camp there.

Oh girl. As much as I’d like hot water, I am thankful I can say my central heating and air works. Does yours only reach certain parts of your house?

@AmbiePam No central air or heat can be put in this house. It was built in 1860. We have window unit in bedroom for air with a heat strip and diesel heater in the den. Plus two electric heaters in the den. Electric heater in full bathroom and small electric heater in hall bathroom.

Windows! I would love to have a window that the sunlight can penetrates every morning, and it is where I would love to put my study table. Imagine working or reading in a very sunny window. That will be my favorite spot inside of our room if ever!

The only thing I would change is the amount of carpet I have upstairs in my house. So tired of getting shocked just to turn the light switch on and off. .

@ambiepam I’d go for an extra bathroom. Just the one - I’d hate to go back to having 5 like in our last house. I don’t want to spend my life cleaning toilets, but a spare would be good.

Oh there's a lot to list . . . this old, little house needs a lot of work. I do wish I could do something about the neighbors .

I've made a lot of changes already. So I don't think we would if we didn't have to. I wish out bathrooms weren't the size of walk in closests, but that's about it.

I wish there were more sidewalks connecting my neighborhood to our town so we don't have to depend on cars all the time.

@AmbiePam the carpets gather dust, grime, and cat hairs and with my sciatica at time bothering me I cannot always vacuum and things get messy, I would really just love floors to mop or sweep up,

At times when the kids are home, I would love a bigger house. But that would be more to heat, cool, and clean! What's up with no hot water?

Yes, I never wanted a bigger house to clean. Maybe if I could afford a maid. I haven’t had hot water in 9 years. They tried fixing it three times, and never did, so I quit asking. Every time they’d come to fix it the maintenance man would track gunk in from his shoes, and make a mess, so after the third time I let it go and just take cold showers now. In the summer, it is refreshing.

@AmbiePam I hope that's better than it sounds. That is so criminal to deprive you of hot water.

No, I don’t have hot water. Haven’t for nine years. Tried constantly to get them to fix it, but they never got it right (they really did try). I eventually gave up.

I love to cook, my kitchen is adequate but if it were larger I would really love that. I want to get the tiny hallway bathroom painted sometime this spring if I can.

@AmbiePam Yes, I would, I certainly did when I had one. But I know I am very fortunate to have a nice place to live and that everything works. Amber, I don't think it's legal for you to not have hot water. Can't you call your local tenant's association or someone? I bet your Dad knows who you could call. That's just not right. Makes me hurt to think about a cold shower!

I quite like where I live. It's a nice, quiet area but close enough to be able to walk to the town. We have good transport links (sometimes unreliable and expensive but at least it does exist). We have a lotnof neighbours, most of whom are lovely. So those things, I wouldn't change. We live in a flat (apartment) that is above one other. It's he not one you call a 'block'. The flats look like houses so visitors get confused and have trouble figuring out how to get to the top one! I'd probably change that somehow. There are also two flights of stairs to us. I don't know if I could change that without knocking the whole thing down and starting again but it's impractical things like that that I'd change. The bedroom that my two sons share could be bigger. It's not really designed for two large adults to share! The rooms are fairly large for the type of property. I'd still like more space, though. Extra cupboards and surfaces in the kitchen, and additional rooms/space for a workbench and all my gaming and crafts! Realistically, I'd just like to have a good de-clutter, get some decent furniture, put up shelves and cupboards, and give everywhere a lick of paint.

I like pretty much everything here, it is only 7 years old. I do wish that the bedroom window did not stick, it doesn't slide open very easily. I actually prefer windows that crank open.

I wish the design layout of the house was different. This is an old house built in the 1950's and was originally a summer beach home. So, the rooms are small and cramped space wise. There was a dining room and extra upstairs bedroom added on in the 1970's. If I could afford it, I would knock out a wall to make things more spacious. Oh yes, I would change many of the neighbors around me. Very inconsiderate people and self-absorbed. But you can't choose your neighbors can you.
