A little touch of my childhood soft drinks

Childhood drinks

I rarely had aerated soft drinks as a child, mainly because they were considered expensive treats. This was well before the multi national companies came in with Coke and Pepsi. Limca was an Indian fizzy lime drink and Thums Up was an Indian cola. Their taste is distinctly different from Sprite or Coke/Pepsi. These drinks still exist, although they have now been taken over by Coke and Pepsi. Drinking them on the weekend brought back childhood memories. Have you had anything to eat/drink that reminded you of your childhood

That could give clues about where I'm from, but all I can think of right now are breaded and fried eggplants. I don't even like eggplants, but everything is good when fried I guess. I haven't had them in ages, my grandma used to make them. When I was born Coke was around and popular already, so I drank that during my childhood.

Mom breaded and fried everything when I was a kid... And no, not everything is good when breaded and fried. I hated okra and still hate it, no matter how it's prepared.

@DaddyEvil Aww, I never had okra and I don't think I ever will... if you say frying won't make it any better.

Chicken is a good childhood memory. My mother worked every weekend as a book keeper. Every Sunday my Dad would fix fried chicken. His fried chicken was really good.

Fresh milk in cans or whatever reminds me of my childhood because what we children drank were pure fresh milk from live cows or even carabaos. Every morning, a woman delivered bottles of fresh milk which my mother heated or pasteurized. Then the whole family had respective share of the milk.

We initially used to have a milkman deliver fresh milk, but later switched over to packed milk

When I was a child, we usually have a bottle of carbonated Royal orange drink if being sick. I find it weird, but that is what the old folks do before.

@pitstop yes, its acquired by Coca-Cola long back, who didn't dare to phase it out from Indian market because of its tremendous popularity

Its really a good feeling to still have your favorite drinks or food that you usually enjoy when you were a child. I feel you! Mine? Dunkin Donuts is still there, I love their donuts, munchkins, nutty chocolate and chocolate butternuts.

We rarely had soft drinks either. We used to call them soft drinks. Maybe once a week or even less.

I remember drinking Goldspot and Limca , before the were taken over by Coke and Pepsi. And yes, the taste was distinct at that time and I did wonder why I have not heard these brands earlier. I did have Coke and Pepsi while I was studying in the Middle East . I was not a regular with those unless its summer. And the summer in Middle East was very hot. So yes, it could be once in three days and especially if you are travelling in the noon. By the time I returned to India all changed , there was no trace of the Indian/Desi brands. At times , yes these do bring memory of my childhood. Take care!

Thankfully these desi brands managed to survive even though they were taken over by the bigger companies.
