I tried an experiment planting onions using an empty plastic bottle. It's easy to do. You can see in the photo image the onion leaves are coming out and their roots spread inside the bottle
. I'm so thrilled too look at them every day. How to do it. If there are empty plastic bottles there in your home that you keep unconsciously lol, try to pour water on them one at a time. Then cut the top part of the onion and then let it sit touching the water just like in the picture set up. You can replace the water while the roots are not yet shown. Make sure to fill full the bottle so the edge of the onion can reach it. After 6 days the roots will gradually come out and the leaves will come out after some days. Once they are ready to be harvested use scissors to cut the onion leaves. The leaves come out nonestop for one week. Enjoy.

I use the same way to grow onion, but I do it in a pot than in the water bottle. Enjoy your freshly harvested leaves

@arunima25 , this one does not require a daily watering because they already sit in the water.

@arunima25 that's right and there's no pressure They're only left there to produce green onions for salads.

@cacay1 Yes, that is one advantage. And also it's a good recyclable use of the old plastic bottles

This is such a great idea. I love gardening but right now I live it a flat. Hope that changes soon.
I would love to get back to growing vegetables salad herbs. I'm not much into flowers but it is such a rewarding experience.
I'll still try doing this in my kitchen maybe with one onion on my kitchen table. Thanks for sharing this.
This is such a good activity for kids.
