Why is nature so cruel

I have talked about cats visiting us and how I wish they did not as I no longer have the kind of energy I had to care for pets. In the good old days we had four dogs and even up to seven cats. At the moment I am satisfied having just Peppie But when cats come I let them eat from Peppie's bowl. One pregnant cat visited us every day and we let her come specially because Peppie liked her too She belonged to my neighbour My neighbour told me as the cat was trying to climb up the wall to get to her house a dog pulled her down and instantly killed her. Our pet Preitie loved cats and she played with them but why this dog became so cruel is not understood Why is nature allowing this?

I guess animals (including humans) are practically the only predators. There are not many predatory plants!

Because you have to understand, that's how it is sometimes. If you don't believe in having indoor animals, things like this happen all of the time. Animals only know one thing, how to survive. their methods are often cruel.

@allknowing I don't worry (much) about being eaten on any given day. As you saw, I am just working on speakers and enjoying my cat sleeping by my side. There was rain today, but I made it to and from Guitar Center without any issues.

@TheHorse When a cat that you so adore gets ruthlessly killed how can one ignore it?. She was fully pregnant and perhaps was on her way to her house to deliver babies.

I also do not have the answers for that either. All I know is that they were made that way in the wild to help them survive. Although those instincts were somewhat subdued when we kept them as pets, occasionally those instincts would suddenly resurface.

Given that dogs and cats are inherently antagonistic, it is likely that it was not adequately trained to handle this.

Whichever dog that mauled this lovely cat may not have been trained.

Dogs were bred for different tasks, including hunting and protection. Sometimes it's just instinct. It is cruel indeed, especially since it's pretty much impossible to understand how come the dog perceived that cat as a threat.

I have seen the best friendship between a dog and a cat - our dog and the neighbour's cat You can watch it here
