Gas Will Bankrupt Me

I paid $156 refilling my car with gas last month alone and another $45 yesterday. I didn't go out much last month except for my freelancing work because of my chronic pain. I am frustrated with how expensive gas along with everything else is, but gas is something that I have been paying extra attention to because I own a car and need to drive to and from work. The cost of gas is eating up my budget. It's the most expensive expense I have along with my monthly car and health insurance payments.
I won't be going on any night drives this month even if I do get a surge of energy to do so. I like going on night drives and enjoying the night view while cruising down the street obeying the speed limit of course, but this "guilty pleasure" if one can call it that is out of the window this month.
I will find a cheap guilty pleasure to enjoy at home instead. I will see what I can do. Just frustrating.

@jstory07 You and your husband are living very blissful lives. You two are very lucky. I wish for some bliss in my life as well.

I have to fill up my gas 2 to 4 times a month, at least once every two weeks or once every week depending on how much I need to drive per month and how much work I have. I need my car for work. If there weren't so many psychos on the subway, I wouldn't mind selling my car and just using public transportation. Psychos are the reason I need my car in the first place when there is a perfectly good train system in place. That's so nice of your doctor to do that! My doctor never offered anything of that sort. I have to pay for my gas and the parking meter when I park. My hospital doesn't even have a proper parking lot. I have to use a parking meter at the back of the lot.

We don't go anywhere for guilty pleasure trips. Gas is just too costly. I try to combine any trips I can, to keep from making extra trips, and I have to drive quite a bit. Everyone I know has just had to cut back on gas if at all possible.

I like night drives, but I won't be doing them any longer. My only guilty pleasure that I looked forward to is out of the window due to costs. I am definitely one of those people cutting back on gas. I can't afford it anymore.

Where do you buy your gas at?
Find a station that has a discount program. My husband uses Shell. They give $.20 a gallon. I think Exxon has one too.
I use Murphy. They used to give $.10 when you reached so many points, but now it is $.05/gal., but you that that weekly or bi-weekly.

Exxon, but I didn't see any discounts. I will try Shell next time I need to fill up. I will check out Murphy too. I didn't even know Murphy existed. I will have to look into it. Thank you so much!

That seems very expensive.
Hubby uses this app I think it’s called upside. You get cash back for filling up your car. You check in at the gas station you’re at (using the app) and then upload your receipt and you get cash back. I’m not 100% sure on that but I think you have to link a card to your account in the app and use that to make the purchase. Downside to the app is not all gas stations are a part of that. You gotta go to the app and search for participating gas stations near where you are and go to one of those. Not sure how you cash out what you’ve accumulated. I would assume you transfer that to the bank but maybe not.

Yes, my bills are driving me crazy, especially my gas expenses with the gas prices going up and up. Thank you for sharing this app. I will look into it. I don't use apps of any kind, but it looks like I should start now if I want to save any money at all. I actually teared up seeing how much I paid for gas last month alone.

I gave up driving back in 2014. So nice not having insurance and gas to pay for. I can only imagine the strain on your budget.

Gas (or petrol, as we say in the UK) is much more expensive here. It’s becoming more and more of a luxury to drive a car nowadays. The government are pushing us towards all-electric cars, but they are way more expensive to buy and have range limitations. I’ll not be buying one anytime soon, nor will I be cruising for pleasure only.
I’m all for cheap guilty pleasures at home too. Shame I have to have the heating on to enjoy it though. ![](/Content/images/emotes/sad.gif)
