It’s Pretty, But YUCK

You know what I say about how I love sn*w: somewhere else. After a wild day of record rainfall (every single county in Kentucky — and there are 120 counties — had some type of flood warning yesterday into this morning) we got an unexpected three inches of sn*w. It’s that heavy, high-water-content stuff that looks really cool on the trees.
Yes, it’s pretty. But YUCK.
I just finished watching the local live weather vlog. They’re talking about a “narrow swath” of somewhere may get EIGHT TO TWELVE INCHES of the evil white stuff.
Then we go into the deep freeze (as in, maybe below zero in the rural areas away from the city and the “urban heat island”).
And I just got home from thawing my poor achy bones out! Cue the Jimmy Buffett, “I’ve gotta go where it’s WARM!!!!” yet again!
First I have to run up to Gobbler’s Knob and kick that groundhog’s butt.
The photo is from my back yard. Pretty! But YUCK.

I'm almost positive that "YUCK" isn't a scientific term...
My area is showing another 8 inches predicted in the next 24 hours. It snowed here all day but most of it was tiny flakes. We might have 3 inches of snow on the ground right now. I heard the road grader going through when I woke up at 6 pm.

No, sir, it isn’t scientific. It is, however, exceptionally accurate.

Snowflakes are pretty when you look at them closely. Snow as a whole is not. It's dirty, clumpy, cold, and hard. You can hurt yourself if you fall on snow at times.

@lilacskies — about two and a half months (and six missed concerts
). Thank God, it was a clean break and I didn’t need surgery. One of our former myLotters is recovering from a broken ankle that required surgery late last year.

I broke my ankle in snow ten years ago. Another reason to hate it.

@FourWalls Yikes! That sounds really painful! How long did it take you to heal?

I love snow, but not when it's excessive, or becomes a nuisance.

There was a pretty bad pile-up on the interstate here this morning. It’s reportedly better now, but with the temperatures going into the teens anything wet will re-freeze.

You don’t get this in the winter, either. So enjoy the picture.

And I thought the couple inches we got was bad....although since Thursday we may have gotten 6 inches. However, it rained between/after so now it is more just a slushy mess! Yes that does look pretty, but I can agree with the yuck!

There’s a difference in places like Idaho, where you’re “used to it.” This is the snowiest winter we’ve had in a long time, PLUS we think this is the “Deep South” (as opposed to what we are, which is borderline south), so it’s just a mess here.

@FourWalls I've lived here all my life and I am still not "used to it". Sorry it is a mess. I am glad ours was pretty mild up until this past weekend.

They expect it here, but we have not seen it yet. Saying 5"to12". I am staying indoors tomorrow.

I’ll take what we get over what you get with earthquakes and fires.

I’m with you on the snow front. It’s no fun, and fortunately we’ve not had much so far this winter.
I thought you were from Alabama, not Kentucky? You get around so much, I hope you forgive me.
Kentucky has 120 counties? Wow, that is way more than we have in England. I had to check, and apparently it’s 48. The weather is quite benign atm, but we are forecast to have a lot of wind and rain later in the week. No snow.

@FourWalls I am easily confused!
What do I know about Kentucky? Hmmm…..
1. It has a famous horse race called The Kentucky Derby.
2. The song Blue Moon of Kentucky.
3. You live there.
That’s about it.

@Orson_Kart — the Everly Brothers were from here.
Bluegrass music is named after the state nickname (the Bluegrass State).
I live here.

Third most counties of any state (behind #2 Georgia and #1 Texas), mainly for political reasons eons ago.
My house is in Kentucky. I live wherever I am (which, at the moment, is home).
Love going to Alabama for quick getaways. Sorry for the confusion.

I posted a poem on my Facebook wall this morning:
My nose is red
My skin is blue
I’m going to Punxsutawney
And eat groundhog stew

You might want to wait on the kicking butt. My area has about 4 inches of that crap. It's everywhere again

Truth be told, we haven’t had a winter like this in a long time. We were overdue for one…so it’s overworking to make up for it.

@wolfgirl569 — I definitely don’t like it, either. I’m all for another 20 years until the next one.

I’ll never deny its beauty. Ice-coated trees are gorgeous, too. It’s just the problems they cause.

We have ice and a bit of snow, with more coming Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. That part doesn't worry me nearly as much as the bitter temperatures...people who have to work outside, homeless people...it hurts to think of how dangerously cold is supposed to be. It's already really cold here, and will be all week, so what we have now won't be going anywhere for a week or more--next Sunday is a balmy 33 degrees, so that's our outlook. Tomorrow's wind chill at school bus time, is minus 25. Those poor kids!

They won’t even hazard a guess as to how much sn*w we’ll get with that Tuesday/Wednesday system. Anywhere from 2-12”. Heck, I can guess better than that: “we’ll get anything from three flakes to two feet.”
I’ll probably be staying home the rest of the week.

I want to stay home all week long, too. But unfortunately, I bet that doesn't happen. I know son has two appointments but they are on Thursday, so things should be calmer by them.
Yes, I have heard some wild predictions made for the snowfall expected. We'll get what we get, when we get it, haha...your forecast makes perfect sense to me!

I’m out today. It’s supposed to return tomorrow and Wednesday, so I need to pick up some tomatoes for my burgers I’ll be eating all week.

I like one snowfall a year. We’re way above average here this year.
