Dead Beetle in Strawberry

I am so disgusted. I wanted to eat a snack today and decided to cut up some strawberries. I had just grabbed one strawberry from the clear plastic box it came in and sliced one open horizontally when there it was, a dead black beetle in the middle of the strawberry. I would've been even more disgusted if I had sliced the beetle in half, but fortunately it was lower in the middle and not nearer the stem where I had sliced it.
I nearly threw up when I saw it. I threw out the strawberry of course and lost my appetite once again altogether. I was originally going to have tortellini soup made out of scratch for dinner today, but I have lost my appetite altogether and will skip dinner once again.
I put the box of strawberries back in the fridge because I don't want to check the rest to see if there are more. Ugh!

Sounds like a strawberry beetle. They get down inside and there is no way of knowing they are inside the berry.
You said above ''. I had just grabbed one strawberry from the clear plastic box it came in and sliced one open horizontally''--OK, you grabbed it out and you sliced it--did you wash your berries? You definitely need to if you don't.

Strawberry beetles are a lot more prevalent than they used to be. I am glad you wash yours, I do as well.

@MarieCoyle I never knew that. I learn so much from you. Yes, I always wash all my fruits and vegetables, even the insides.

I had no idea strawberry beetles existed. That is so creepy. Yes, I slice my strawberries before I wash them. I want to wash the insides too. I've always done that. Tnis is the first time I've found a beetle in my strawberry and it creeped me out.

Why put it back, just blow up the fridge. Beatles scary, where I used to walk with dogs some so big, I would think they could carry me off to a foreign land.

@crossbones27 That's a relief. Let's just hope we never come across poisonous beetles if they exist. It's already bad enough trying to avoid bad people. Must we try to avoid bad insects too? It's so much effort. You are right. These are some interesting times. Disturbing too. Lol!

Your description of giant beetles reminds me of the giant cockroaches I've seen when visiting Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The family joke is that they are so large, they could be used to pull a buggy or a farm wagon. Those suckers are so scary and huge...no, thanks!

@lilacskies People can think they so smart but these creatures born on this rock are indeed perfectly adapted to this place. It is interesting how people think they so safe. They were showing another with big cats with kids. its pretty crazy too. The female trying to bite kids head off through window is probably one of the most vivid memories I will have. Her white fangs were perfect to consume. I am not sure why they show that if people are not going to listen but even I was like holy crap.

As long as it’s not John Lennon, you should be ok. It’s just extra protein.
You can understand why growers use insecticides on fruit and vegetables. It’s a jungle out there!

I know. Thank you. I only ate one meal yesterday and stayed in bed. I gave up on my appetite as soon as I saw that.
