Warming Up Those Buns!!

While the photo is a play on the title (my hamburger buns warming up in the skillet), there’s one thing that I absolutely cannot live without anymore: heated seats in the car. Heck, I have that thing on (temporarily, of course) in the summer!
That’s what old age and a bad back will do for you.
It’s funny how they put these “luxuries” in automobiles and I think, “WHY? I’d never need that!” Now, with the arthritis in my hands, I’m even eyeing a heated steering wheel for the next car (assuming this one dies and makes me buy a new one eventually).
I’m being dragged into modern conveniences slowly but surely. In 1981 I bought a car that was, quite literally, the cheapest thing they had on the lot (my thing died on the lot, so I was stuck) so my little E-3 Navy salary could afford it. It had standard transmission (the salesman was amazed that a 21-year-old woman could drive a stick..that’s courtesy of the old “three on the tree” car we had when I was little, when my dad would let me shift the gears), no A/C, no radio, no nothing except a steering wheel and four tires. Not only was it one of the best cars I ever owned, it acclimated me to minimalism in my cars. As they got fancier, I opted for the standard transmission, no A/C versions (much to the chagrin of the car dealerships).
Eventually, however, the stick shift has gone by the wayside, and A/C is standard equipment. Thankfully, in the model of Honda I have, so are the heated seats.
Warm up those buns!!!!!
The attached artwork is my own photograph. I call it Hamburger Buns in an Electric Skillet.

My older sister's hubby (now deceased) used to sing a song about someone's Ford that had the rhyming line "Four wheels and a board".
I heard someone refer to heated seats as "rear defrosters"
I don't care for it myself.

@FourWalls Oh, I don't know that they were useless... they were a step up into the cab, and just like we used to ride in the back of a pickup truck, people would also stand on the running board for a free ride.

@BarBaraPrz — well, that is true. Also a place for the gangsters to pile on (per the old movies, which is where I saw running boards mostly).

They’re heated seats because “rear defroster” was already taken.
The old running boards! Talk about a completely useless thing on a car!

I have a 5 in the floor, Ford Ranger. No heated seats in my car but a/c absolutely!
I drove so many junkers growing up, but hey, they got me around where I needed to be.

Junkers are good. But, like I said, I’m spoiled. And, now at my age, I want reliable cars. (Of course, that means I can still have this one in ten years, as dependable as they are!)

Nice buns!
I have heated seats in my car, and they have been switched on a lot this winter.
Next car I get will probably be electric, and with them, you can pre-warm the car before you get in remotely. Sounds like bliss.

@FourWalls Just to complicate the GARAGE pronunciation. If you watch this link, I pronounce it the 2nd “British” way.

@Orson_Kart — I noticed that Rainer Hersch (whom I’ve been enjoying tremendously lately) uses the GA-roj pronunciation. I first hear the GAR-age in “Levon” by Elton John.

Glad you like my buns.
My car can be remotely started to warm up, but I have a garage (side note: prefer the way you say GAR- age to how we say ga-ROJ) so it’s not out in the weather.

The only thing better than heated leather seats and steering wheel is heated sideview mirrors.
They are a game changer for the icy weather we seem to get far too much of.
And if they fold in, even better.
That wasn't an option that we were looking for in a vehicle, but our Tiguan has it, and we wouldn't be without it now.
BTW, that nice dry heat works wonders on a bad back especially on a cold and damp day, we literally have gone for rides, to fix my back, the relaxation helps it work a little quicker.

I don’t have heated mirrors. They fold in but not automatically. I have a garage so usually frozen side mirrors and windshields aren’t an issue.

You are very artistic.
. We have never had heated seats in our car. My sister does and loves it.

They sound silly (especially if you buy a car with a dark interior, because those seats are HOT in summer), but once you experience it in winter, or if you have a bad back (or even a sore back after walking a lot on a vacation), they are marvelous.

Those buns go well with tuna and sunny side-up eggs.

Unfortunately, I’m allergic to both seafood and eggs, so grilled chicken or Boca burgers will do.

@Iam_jauntyjen — it first manifested itself when I was 13. Like too much milk, it took me a while to learn.

@FourWalls oh! I am sorry to hear that. Have you always been allergic to seafood? I have a friend who has late-onset allergy. She used to eat shrimp but now she cannot eat them anymore otherwise she will have hives and itchy skin.

I have ridden in cars with heated seats, they are nice. Unless we find one very used, though, we will not have one. I would go for the heated steering wheel first. My arthritis is worst in my hands as well.

I got a padded steering wheel wrap and it helped my hands immensely during the last trip.

My first car spoiled me... It had a/c and swivel front bucket seats covered in red leather.
And, a cassette deck! (Somebody had added that before they sold the car.
)
My car two cars before the one I have now (about 15 years ago) didn't have a/c and I sure hated that in Missouri's hot summers! I swore I'd never have another car without a/c!
I hope you're having a good day.

Why would you want a cassette player??!

(They make things now like cushions instead of the entire seat, where you can sit on it and turn into or out of the car.)
I got everything I wanted to do today done!! Great day!

@FourWalls I'm talking about way back in '81 or maybe '82
I loved those swivel seats, for real.
Nice!

No heated seats or AC here in my truck. The AC probably just needs recharged but I never use it anyways. Would love heated seats this time of year

The cheap alternative is put a hand warmer in the seat, or a hot water bottle.
I honestly use the heated seat function after I walk a lot in summer. Makes my back feel better.

My cats chose to warm up their heads. It got quite cold here again and they found spots with sun to sleep in and slept with their heads hanging down and the sun shining on them.

Smart cats. I can’t take the light or I’d probably have a sun lamp over my bed at night.

I know. I even told the salesman when I first got a car with them, “What do you need those things for in the middle of summer?” Oh, now I know!!!!

My friend has those heated seats in the car. Ooh, do they feel nice! Gotta have some of those when I buy my next car. Having a balky back is no fun as I can attest to. So, having a built-in heating pad loosens those muscles up really good. Enjoy the ride and heat!
