Talked To My Homebound Friend

I have a friend who has severe health problems and is homebound. They used to call these people invalids. Her adult son lives with her and takes care of her. She hasn't left the house in 5+ years. She has a home health care nurse and dentist who visit her at home. We text each other all the time, all day every day, but I hardly ever talk to her on the phone because there's nothing shorter than a 90 minutes conversation with her. She goes back and forth and back and forth in telling any kind of story rather than in a linear fashion. But she's been my friend since around 1997 and I care about her so I just listened to her for the past hour.

Oh, you are a gem. You are her sounding board. I wish I had a friend I can call my listening ear. It is not easy to find someone who is willing to listen and not say anything or judge you. I have a good friend who is always quick to say something, give pieces of advice. Or dismiss my feelings. Sometimes, she would even say, "forget about that, the more you talk about that, the more you get annoyed." Or sometimes she would bring up bible qoutes. So I usually feel more frustrated and not heard.

That is what friends are for, to support one another.

Please don’t ever lose the knowledge how important you are to her. I am so glad she has you to bless her in that way.

One thing about being house bound, you do miss those contacts. Very good of you to take the time
