Emergency surgery!

My music buddy Michael's daughter just exploded. Her new baby was due in two-and-a half-months, but her water broke, and it was an emergency. The baby was born in the hospital, weighing under 3 lbs. It was born by c-section.
Both the mother and child are doing OK. The baby, even at less than 3 lbs, is eating well, has a solid grasping reflex, and is breathing on his own.
Mike and I talked for an hour this morning. Once he described his situation, we discussed it in detail. He is the one who moved to New Orleans to be Grandpa to Ashley's first child. She is 1 1/2 and he is smitten.
Then, of course, we talked about music. The recording process. His new songs. How the bands he was in are doing.
Please send thoughts and prayers to this new little baby. I look forward to meeting both of Mike's grand kids. And to playing music with him again.

Premature births can be so scary. I am glad that so far, the tiny one is doing well. I know it's a long walk to get them where they need to be in weight and progress. Prayers said for the tiny one, and for the family as well.

I guess the baby will be in the NICU for some time... just couldn't wait to meet his grampa, could he?

I am so glad the baby is doing well. Sometimes the preemies turn out to be big! I have a friend who has a baby who was born something like 15 weeks early and he's already surpassed kids his age that were born on time.

Prayers for Mike's daughter and baby! One of the twins had a co-worker that had emergency c-section last year with a premie. He wasn't expected to live, but pulled through and has since been released from the hospital. He had to stay for several months for all organs to fully develop.

@TheHorse Yes it is. If they have one child by c-section they in most cases will have the next by c-section as well

I'll certainly say a prayer for that sweet one. Our grandson weighed 2 1/2 pounds and is a big, healthy 21 year old.

Sounds like the baby is doing well despite his size, so that is all that matters really. I hope you get to see both kids someday.

I will put the baby and mama in my prayers. If he can eat and breathe on his own I am sure he will grow fast,

'Michael's daughter just exploded.' Sorry but that's a horrible way to describe what she has been through. Glad mother and baby are doing well. These days so many babies survive extremely early births but suffer major life-long problems as a result.
