What a Name Change Can Do

I have always enjoyed Sigourney Weaver's acting ever since I first saw her in "Ghost Busters". I often wonder about her first name. I had never seen it before. Come to find out that at the age of 14, she changed her name of 'Susan' and adopted Sigourney from a miner character in F. Scott Fitsgerald's The Great Gatsby. A wealthy socialite by the name of Sigourney Howard. She felt that the name 'Susan' was too common and because she wanted to be more distinctive. She went on to do the iconic portrayal of Ellen Ripley in the Alien science fiction film franchise. The picture is from wallpapersafari.com

I've always thought of Signourney as a very unusual name.
