Remember the clean apartment I went to look at?
Well, it was lovely, but something very strange and illegal happened, thus infuriating me once again.
Let me explain.
A property for us has to be inspected.
Well this place said the electrical wasn't up to code and wouldn't pass the inspection.
Like REALLY?
Well then, what is the deal here?
Should you be renting out a place that is not up to code?
Now I wouldn't have bothered myself about it, EXCEPT they let us pay the application fee, knowing we would not be approved.
In Colorado, if you are turned down for a rental, they must refund the app fees..of $70 this time.
But the snag about that is..how long are they going to take to do that and...
Are they even going to?
If not, I would have to take them to small claims court.
Also this place have gone back on what they had put in writing and have said they want 2 months rent to get out of the lease here, though it is their environmental hazard that is illegal.
I tell you, I am at the end of my rope with these crooks.
All this would not bother me as much if my son was no so gravely ill.
Anyway, I am going today to look at another place, ugh.
And another one later on Thursday.
I think we better have our rolling suitcases ready for the streets, the way things are looking.

@RebeccasFarm It's everywhere. I have heard so many horror stories back home in Baltimore and here where we live now in Tennessee. Keep your head up, you'll find what you need and love.

Good grief! that is criminal the way they do business there and let the slumlords get away with it. I really hope and pray you find a decent place and that you get that application fee back right away.

That's not right and I would be calling them daily to see where my refund is. Make a statement such as, "Am I going to have to contact an attorney to get my money back or take you to court?" See if you can put a little pressure on with that. I would be calling the state housing authorities also and reporting them and report to the BBB.

@RebeccasFarm That workers sounds like a useless one!! Why aren't people trained to do the jobs? I know some could care less and just sit there waiting for the clock to be at the time off mark and that is their day. So many don't care and just want that paycheck.

It is Judy. It's not just in my city either..really been going on for years but now with the entry of illegals..its brutal as they get priority.

Why indeed..and I haven't the time at the moment to deal with them full force as I am stuck in a survival bubble with my son and his collapsed lung.

You are dealing with an incredibly stressful and frustrating scenario. The fact they let you pay the application fee in spite of the fact they knew the property would not pass inspection is not only unfair but illegal as well. It is understandable why you are furious especially with the additional complications like the refusal to refund the fee. Adding a two-month rent clause to get out of the lease on top of the environmental issues they are responsible for, is just beyond sanity. It is even worse considering your son’s health. We can only imagine how overwhelming you are feeling right now. Pursuing the small claims court route might be needed if they do not follow through on the refund. I hope you get a good place this week itself. Take care!
