Fried donuts

Many years ago when our kids were children, I would make donuts for a sweet snack. I opened and separated a can of biscuits, cut out a hole in the middle, then deep fried them in hot oil. The holes were also cooked. Then they were rolled in white sugar and cinnamon. I made these recently and they were still a yummy snack. Although it's not something I'll fix very often...too many calories. I sent a photo to Tammy and Robert and they remembered it from years ago. Have you ever made donuts this way?

You're right, donuts aren't very healthy.

I can't say that I have, but I have made monkey bread using biscuits and that is really good.

I've never made donut holes but the combo of cinnamon and sugar certainly sounds good. I have had store bought donut holes but I'm sure they aren't nearly as good as homemade.

These are best eaten hot, not very good later.

Nope, never made them like that and my mother didn't either, although she didn't enjoy cooking! They sound delicious and I bet my grandkids would love them!

My dad always took donuts for his work snack, but my mom got them from Winchell's . I don't think we ever had those canned biscuits either. Hmmm - maybe I should try making those now !

No but I used to use a recipe in my Betty Crocker cookbook to make homemade old fashioned donuts. I did used frozen bread dough to make fried dough though and that was delish!!

I remember my Mom once making and deep frying donuts from scratch. They were tasty and because she made a lot, she gave some to the next door neighbors.

I've only ever had doughnuts from a shop. You can buy the holes too but I guess you know that.

My mum used to make brownies. Don't think we ever had home made donuts.
