Naval Oranges vs. Mandarins!

I ran into Aldi's this evening to get a few things. I really wanted some Naval Oranges. They were on sale last week and I didn't get any. And of course, the sale had ended today. Instead, Mandarin Oranges were on sale today for $3.49 a bag. I looked at them and put a bag in my basket. Then I saw the Naval Oranges! There were only about 10 bags left in the bin, but they were priced at $3.69 a bag. This was a 4lb. bag and still a great price.
Guess what I chose? The Mandarins or the Naval Oranges?
Yep, I put the Mandarins's back and got the Naval Oranges! I got twice as much fruit for only $.20 more!

@allknowing The sweetness all varies on where they are grown and how they are grown and fertilized, etc. Lots of factors.

@kareng Which is sweeter. May be those normal orranges I talk about must be known as naval as we get those here.

I prefer the Mandarins over the Naval oranges... Mandarins are easier to peel so I'm more likely to eat them before they start molding and I throw them away.
I hope you enjoy your oranges.

@DaddyEvil I ate one earlier and it was pretty easy to peel with the thick skin. Much easier than oranges with thin peel. And the flavor was very sweet.
Mandarins and Satsumas seem to have air space in between the fruit and peel. They are totally different.

@kareng I threw away about half the last bag of Naval oranges I bought. They molded before I ate them.

Glad the oranges were still there!
Here Aldi had avocado at a very good price so I bought one for the very first time and loved it. I also got apples, we had oranges at home already but I didn’t get to eat any if I gotta be honest.

@somewitch Sounds good! That's the only way I can manage to eat oatmeal; is by flavoring it in some way!

I usually get easy to peel fruit like tangerines, but I bought Navel aOranges last time because they were inexpensive. They are fine, but I think I will go back to easy peel tangerine types.. There are a couple of brands I really like

I prefer my mandarins out of a tin. I’ve never seen naval oranges in a tin, but I’ve would give them a go. Fresh oranges are variable in quality and it’s taking the pith off that bugs me. Enjoy!

We used to have an orange tree in our front yard back at my house. I miss it sometimes.

I love when something on sale isn't a better price. You would think they would look at that

I love navel oranges too and would have settled for mandarins if I had to but definitely would have chosen the navels once I saw they still had them. That was a good price for those oranges
