Dolly peg people

I wrote about wooden clothes pegs/pins and how they needed to be boiled to make them last longer. They are often called ‘dolly pegs’ as they have a rounded ‘head’ and appear to have two legs. The pegs are often dressed up as people and you can see some in the photo. My friend sent me this photo of peg people that some school-children created to use with stories from the Bible. Some have head-dresses but others still need their faces painted on.

@JudyEv I don't know if they're good clothespins but they make cute people.

that brought back a few memories from school. I'd forgotten all about peg people!

So you had them at school. I can't remember that we did but they would have been a cheap resource I guess.

@JudyEv Indeed and quite common. Not so many of those spring loaded ones way back then!

Those are adorable. Good idea for someone teaching crafts at Bible schools, too.

@MarieCoyle I did notice that one. I thought perhaps the 'legs' had been cut off short but maybe they're just bent as the material appears to stick out over the 'knees'.

@JudyEv On the far left in the picture, there is one dressed in red that appears to be sitting down? Rather unique, too.

I can handle these. They are not creepy like puppets and dolls.

@JudyEv Yes, I feel like they are holding their breaths, staring at me, and waiting for me to leave the room so they can move around. I've always had that feeling.

Are they still available for kids to dress them up?

I suppose they can still buy the pegs somewhere but they aren't available in the more usual stores.

That's so true. Our Playschool on TV used to be very inventive too. They used all sorts of simple materials to make magical things.

Those school age children did a great job making those pep people for Bible study. I am old enough to remember using clothespins for hanging clothes outside to dry.

We used those one time for crafts in vacation bible school. I never heard them called dolly pegs. We've always just called them clothes pins.

Someone else mentioned they knew them as 'pins'. I'd heard the term but clothes pegs are more common here. Another little difference between our countries.
