Increase In Prices

United States
March 5, 2025 7:00pm CST
Hell mylot, I just wonder when will prices begin to come down, or if they ever will. I also wonder about people who have chickens on a small scale, do they worry about bird flu. I saw an article on the news, where this man started raising chickens a year ago, as hobby, as it looks he made a good decision. More and more people are going to do something to offset prices. Can anyone here, suggest an app or website on when to plant different type of vegetables. Do you think prices will come down? I just wonder.

Type into your phone or laptop "when do I plant (this type of veggie) in my area (type in your zip code)" and you should get the answer you need. Do I think prices will come down? Not until trump and musk stop playing with the government.

I do not know how much more time Trump has in him. Would Vance do things differently?

@TheHorse I didn't pay a lot of attention to Vance. trump overshadowed him. Pretty says he's as bad as or worse than trump.

No, I don’t think prices will come down anytime soon. I can’t believe how much everything has gone up. I have to buy a certain kind of eye drops, and I want to say to the company, don’t you realize I have to buy food too? I can’t afford these jacked up prices for eye drops.

They might or they might not. deflation isn't a thing as far as I know, but they will even out over time.

@TheHorse Probably. Of slept through school. I have seen prices fluculate, but not due to who's in the ovel office or who isn't. Eggs are high because we went through a low period when chickens weren't producing as many, as well as unusal winter conditions. this also had an affect on crops that rely on consistant more stable conditions. there's a lot more to what it takes to get our food off the farm and to the grocery store.

I don't think prices are going down. I think we are in for a very frightening four years. Raising your own hens for eggs sounds good but you have to think: how much for hen food? How much for the coop, even if you make it yourself, fencing, sometimes lighting and yes your time is valuable and the labor to clean that coop. Sooner than later the hens will stop laying due to age and then do what with them? Are you able to butcher?? Planting vegies depends on your climate- when are there no frost free nights? And on we go.....

Because of all the uncertainty with tariffs, you may have to wait a while before prices come down.

Sigh. I am glad I did a good job of putting earnings into savings when I was working 120 percent time.

@TheHorse Some of our fly-in-fly-out workers got caught. They were getting big money on the mine sites but some bought fancy boats, motor-bikes, etc then things started to slide and some lost their jobs and suddenly had all these debts they couldn't pay.

That's the answer. Once the manufacturers see they can get the high price, they stick to it.

I believe ChatGPT can assist you with your issues. They may adapt to where you live and what plants thrive in your area. So far, I have been pleased with how they are doing. You can ask them anything, and they will respond almost instantaneously.

Prices are not coming down for a long time. You can check with your county extension office for information on planting. But most things you want to wait until your last frost date.

I do the best I can when ordering groceries once a month and have found that if I order a bit more potatoes the next month I can order less and still have enough and also for other things I order, Not everything gets used up in a month,

I don't think they'll come down, but after a while they don't seem so bad as inflation hits the other items

On the price issue, it's hard to say what will happen to prices. The thing is, how inflation works, it is something that has already happened. In other words, the new higher prices don't just go away UNLESS we experience deflation. By the way, deflation is worse than inflation, so it's not a path we want to go down. The long and short is, we are stuck with higher prices post inflation MOSTLY. All we can hope for is for the rate of inflation to slow down to the desired 2% rate, and then wait for wages to catch up. But we are a long way to accomplishing that. Inflation added at minimum 33% under Biden, so wages will have to rise 35%-40% to really see any difference in buying power. However, there WERE certain factors that CONTRIBUTED to that inflation, that if reversed, CAN bring prices down. Increasing oil production and drilling for example. Energy costs are a HUGE part of inflationary pressures since it is required for nearly everything. Raw materials and finished goods are all moved by ship, rail, or truck and all three of those things run on diesel. Bring down the energy cost and you bring down the cost to move everything around. All that said, relief will take a while and we're going to have to be patient and suffer through it.

Prices of things are gong up here over the past month or two. I simply do not have room to have chickens or plant large quantities of vegetables. My "illegal planting" all over the Bay Area is just for fun and harmless rebellion.
