About Easter

Being on Spring Break and visiting my brother has moved me on to think about Easter.
We (extended family) almost always go to Guthrie because being a pastor he needs to be at his church for Easter. It is coming soon.
People have lots of traditions. He hosts an egg hunt, and also gives a lesson with "Resurrection Eggs". These eggs are a set of plastic eggs with emblems of the Easter Story included in each one. Except the last one is empty, portraying the empty tomb.
I received this lovely decorative table mat from a myLot friend today and had to share with you.
I know, it is easy to forget the significance of Easter when we are busy munching on those chocolate bunnies and other things. I have a favorite candy and have already indulged.
I never really cared for chocolate bunnies, and there used to be these almost full size brightly colored eggs filled with stiff marshmallow filling that were kind of strange. My favorite in recent years has been "Robins Eggs", which are Pastel candy covered malt balls, by Whopper. This year I bought, and have already consumed mini Robins' Eggs, which are about the size of jelly beans. Oh, those are good too!!
So do you observe Easter? How? I choose the songs for our church worship here and I have been inserting some of my favorite Easter hymns already. I have begun celebrating as we enter the Lenten season and then the Resurrection Celebration.

There are many churches that broadcast their services on the internet now... started in covid but they've continued the practise.

It stinks to be sick when you really want to go somewhere. Our church is very small, but streams on Facebook. My brother's church is the same. They use a phone, but we have graduated to a computer based way of posting thanks to a bequest from members who have passed.

@BarBaraPrz Thanks for that reminder, Barbara. Our church started doing that not too long ago, but I had forgotten until you mentioned it. It’s a good reminder in case I find myself unable to go this year.

An older member had found them in a Christian bookstore and bought them for the church.

I can't believe that's coming up. I miss the egg hunts and spare change I'd get as a kid. Still love candy. Chocolate is my go-to.

I think I am going to a chocolate outlet today after lunch. I forgot that we can put change in the eggs as a break from candy. We can do both.

That is a nice table mat.
No, we don't celebrate Easter but we do like some of the Easter candy. Pretty always buys different types of Reece's Peanut Butter Cups and Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs. I like the caramel filled eggs. And no, we haven't bought any of them yet this year.
While I was still working at Walmart, I'd start buying Easter candy almost as soon as Walmart put it on display. After the holiday, I used to go in and we'd buy a lot of the sale priced candy so we had it for several months after the holiday was over. (We used to do that after every holiday.)

It is easy to get into a habit of buying candy if you work at a retailer. Tomorrow, in addition to a very nice meal out and a tour of the Eisenhower museum and library we will be visiting a Russel Stover outlet store.

@DaddyEvil I have memories of their fancy store in downtown Oklahoma City. It had an outside wall that was a mirrored blue color. It made it seem so "fancy".

@GardenGerty I think some of the proceeds go towards saving the species. They are a little bit like rabbits.

The kid generations have grown up and out of our family. Just my great great niece around to hide for.

That's a table mat? I thought it was a card...
I have several Lindt bunnies in my fridge... they're covered in gold foil so they're probably still good. I may have to sacrifice one as the cost of Lindt chocolate has gone up tremendously.

The different dates make it hard for some people. Sometimes I celebrate for months at a time.
