I haven't seen fire ants in my part of Missouri yet but we have tiny black ants that love to come in around our kitchen window. Every year, I send Pretty out with a good ant spray and she sprays around the windows and along the base of the house with it. After that, we don't see them again until the next spring.
Vinegar and Diatomaceous Earth (a chalk-like substance made from fossilized algae) are both good for keeping ants away. Vinegar interrupts the scent trails (signals) that ants leave everywhere they walk and confuses them. They don't like the scent vinegar leaves behind. Diatomaceous Earth gets into the ants' armor and dries them out and kills them.
I hate ants of all kinds. I hope you can get rid or them.

You have got some good advices here in the comments below. Hope that they are helpful. Cloves keep ants away. You can keep few in your daughter's bedding, below mattress and pillows and see if it helps. They are not cute at all, they are annoying.

Interesting that cloves work...will have to try that one, as it is the time ants start appearing where I live.

Oh that would be concerning. I hope you can get rid of them. DE that @DaddyEvil is talking about below is a good choice and a natural way to get rid of ants and other pests.

I agree that those red fire ants have a nasty bite. Ants can certainly find the tiniest of spaces to come through. Hope you can find a way to get rid of them.

call pest control is the next best thing to do is my thought

a person is stung enough., their almost like bees.
