I Hear the Seagulls

United States
March 20, 2025 10:27am CST
Squalling outside my apartment door here. I wonder why they are here in the mountains? Has someone sent them to torment me? I love the sound of the seagulls, but it makes me so dang forlorn! I am a sea person, not an inland person. No matter how beautiful the mountains are, I can not settle here. If being by the sea were not so expensive, I'd be gone from this prison. Do you know anyone with some ocean front property for me?

I live two blocks from the ocean. I hear it roaring now. We are moving by May (hopefully), once the property is finished and the house is ready. We'll be about 25 minutes from the beach at that time and in the forest. The salty air rusts wheels, hitches etc. even when treated. Very humid all the time from the rain and marine layer. I love to hear the waves, seagulls and smell the fresh salt air but ready to go back into the mountains.

I miss it greatly..I know what you mean about the rust..one winter up in Massachusettes, I lived 50 ft from the shore and the water came down and rusted out my car..I had to junk it.

@RebeccasFarm It's very expensive to live here too. I am looking forward to a bit more sun though the area is still not that different than here.

That would be nice! But I guess there would be pros and cons with that as well. Hurricanes on the East Coast would have me on edge.

@RebeccasFarm Yes, it can be! It is so peaceful though too to look out over the ocean.

I wish I did! I don't know how anyone can afford to live at the beach. We have a friend who's husband had a beautiful small cottage right on the Atlantic at Nags Head, but she never goes down there. I'd be there every day! That's strange to have seagulls there near you.

@RebeccasFarm I think she rents it out in the summer for a week or two at a time which is outrageously expensive. She won't even rent it to us for a few days. Well, her daughter takes care of all that now and she's rather greedy, shall we say. She has no idea what she's missing out on. That fortune in the bank doesn't bring her any fun or good memories.

I love nature. Both mountains and seas are dear to me. However, I am a person from the foothills of the Himalayas. I grew up looking up to mountains but now I live near the sea. In my heart, perhaps I love rivers more than seas.

All of nature is so lovely if we can appreciate it. I can understand your love of rivers.

Seagull seems to be so much like you, someone who belongs to ocean but got stuck in mountains. . Hope you get some good property near the ocean soon. I love both mountains and oceans.

Aren't they usually closer to water? They seem more sea-ish than inland. Hmm. Ocean front property would be nice. Maybe in our next lives.

I feel this so much. There’s something about the call of seagulls that just tugs at the soul—like they’re reminding you of where you truly belong. The mountains are beautiful, sure, but if your heart is with the sea, no amount of scenery can change that. I wish I knew someone with a little slice of oceanfront paradise to share! If only coastal living weren’t so ridiculously expensive.
