A new category for the clock - predawn

The photo shows the clock in our bedroom at the house-sit. I wrote about trying to work out when it switches from afternoon to evening to night. Now I have a new challenge.
We were awake early – just before 6am – and I put on my glasses to see if the clock had switched from night to morning. I can see the figures from my bed but couldn’t read the print.
I was surprised to see that it read ‘pre-dawn’. By the time I’d grabbed my camera, it had switched to morning. The new challenge is to find out when it switched from night to pre-dawn. I’m guessing 4am.

@allknowing That's true. Once I have it all sorted out I'll be happy.

@JudyEv That's like this echo show. It keeps talking to me when I've asked it nothing.

I really need to find a clock like that. I don't know how many times I've woken up and been confused about what time of day it is...

@JudyEv A light doesn't bother me. I sleep during the daytime and my laptop is always on beside me.

That’s such a fun little detail to notice! Now you’ve got a new mission—hope you catch the exact moment it switches. Let us know if your 4 AM guess is right!

That’s a great clock. I’m just used to A.M. or P.M. but that takes time to another level. I’m guessing it must adjust to the time of year, not just the time of day, so the pre-dawn time varies. I think I would get obsessed with when it changed and get no sleep at all.

@JudyEv Do you mean 3am to 6pm?
Is there not a ‘witching hour’ shown? I thought all good clocks had that?

That clock is way too smart for me.
Oh, I’ll give you a headache that you may NEVER get over. Hopefully the clock doesn’t have it. Look up all the different definitions of “twilight”: “civil” twilight, “nautical” twilight, “astronomical” twilight, all versus “dusk.”

@JudyEv — you’re much better off if you don’t. It’s mind-blowing how difficult and technical people can make something as simple as twilight.
