Wheee! I got my laundry done yesterday.

After realizing I had been wearing the same pair of socks for several days, I decided it was time to get my laundry done yesterday. I like the fact that my clothes smell like Bounce when they come out of the dryer. It's subtle, but enjoyable. I actually used Dollar Tree laundry soap for my laundry yesterday. It had worked fine in my dishwasher, so why not use it for laundry? Do you think soap is soap? Or do you use different soaps for different applications?

I used laundry soap in the dishwasher once... suds all over the floor. And I have to ask, did your socks walk over and voluntarily jump into the washer?

They did. I washed my March underpants too. Early. But it could be a few weeks before I do laundry again. A fella's gotta do what a fella's gotta do.

@BarBaraPrz I'll probably take my March shower before I head to Guitar Center today.

I use specific soap for laundry, dishwasher and hand washing things in the kitchen. I suppose that is a habit you pick up or passed on from your family.

@TheHorse I sometimes substitute baking soda in the dishwasher. It does just fine!

Yep. I think so. I still remember that my parents used Tide. I just use whatever soap is around. But I do have some Irish Spring and real shampoo in my shower.

I use different soaps for different things, laundry detergent for clothes, dish soap for dishes, and body wash for me. But I do think a lot of name-brand soaps are just for marketing

@rakski Have you e er watched a "soap opera"? I don't know if we still have them here. But they were designed to market soap products to American women. I think the have "soap operas" around the world now.

I use capsules in the dish-washer and laundry detergent in the washing machine so yes, different soaps for different applications.

@JudyEv Maybe your clothes will have unsightly spots on them and your dishes will have "ring around the collar."

What would happen if you used laundry soap in the dishwasher and capsules for your laundry? Please report if you conduct research on this matter.

@TheHorse I might do it when I get home but don't want to risk it at the house-sit. Actually I doubt there'd be much difference.

There are different soaps for a reason. As BarBara said, you could end up with suds all over the floor. Have a great day.

According to the plumber I am acquainted with, you should not put laundry detergent in your dishwasher. Reason being, a dishwasher doesn’t use but 2.5-3 gallons of water every cycle. Laundry detergent requires a lot of water to rinse it out of anything and it can build up really fast in the drain and the filter of the dishwasher. Regular dishwashing detergent isn’t very sudsy at all, and it is better for the machine and to rinse thoroughly. So I stick with what works for me.

Life is full of mysteries. My dishwasher is about the only thing here that has not taken ill.

@MarieCoyle Best of luck to you. I seem to destroy vacuum cleaners. Maybe I love vacuuming too much.

@TheHorse I do know that it always seems when one appliance gets sick, another one usually follows. Hopefully, mine will last awhile longer.

It’s definitely not “soap” that makes up a dishwasher capsule or tablet. Asking AI I got this response: Dishwasher tablets typically contain a blend of ingredients including alkaline agents, oxygen-based bleaches, enzymes, surfactants, and sequestering agents to effectively clean and remove stains from dishes. Not to be confuse with laundry detergent.
