We had a wild and crazy night here.

I checked the weather yesterday like I generally do. Other than wind and a bit of rain, it seemed nothing alarming was going on. We were slated to get a few thunderstorms in the night--nothing major, no problems. About 9:45 PM, the lights went out. No power anywhere in over half the city, just nothing. It was windy, but not terrible. There was a huge boom, so I thought of a transformer, and heard a lot of sirens. The power was out until nearly 3 AM. I can't sleep when it's that quiet! Plus, the house felt sort of stuffy. Several times it flickered to come back on, then there was another explosion about 1 AM, so I knew they were trying to fix it. About the time it came back on, we had absolutely torrential rains. And then, the temperature crashed and we had hail..not just little bitty hail, either--big, big hail! And very loud! About 4 AM we had calm, and the power was on. It was nearly impossible to sleep after all of that racket and weirdness. Finally slept for a couple of hours, before the day most merrily started all over again. Now, we just have clouds/haze, and wild winds. I will take that over being without power. I'm spoiled, I like having electricity! If any of you were in the path of all of the hail, I'm sorry for you if your car is sitting out or your roof has damage. It really was more hail than I have seen at one time for a long while. More storms due Sunday. Lots of rain possible, which we could definitely use here. Now we are down for the rest of the day for a high wind watch/warning, but heck, that's normal anymore for us. I will take that over hail any day! It's amazing how hard it is for us to do without power...we are so dependent on it for everything!!

And so the storms of spring begin. I hope they aren't too severe.

@celticeagle I hate the fire warnings and then if there is a fire close by, all of the thick smoke. It's scary, sometimes the fires can jump roadways, etc. Hopefully, we will get a lot of rain this spring to help with the dryness.

So far, we’ve had some wild ones, but mostly really high winds. That always seems to bring us fire warnings if a downpour doesn’t come together with the winds.

I know what you mean when the electrical power goes out for a period of time. It is no fun at all.

@MarieCoyle I am in agreement with you since when a blackout happens at night, it is scary.

@Deepizzaguy I have several automatic lights that come on if/when the power goes out, which helps, I keep candles if needed as well. But it's still not fun at all!

It’s on, yes. It went off for about 20 minutes about 11 AM, came back on. They were making a repair, they said. Then it went off again awhile ago, but it’s back on again now. This wind wis crazy wild today!

I know what you mean. Power outtages are a way of life here. One of the things I notice, is there's this hum, that is always there, and when the pwer goes out, so does this hum it makes it earirely quiet. Thankfullly, our solar power helps circumvent this.

None for me, although I did observe a lot of the usual tree limbs down in places.

Our weather here has been a bit weird as well. Not a lot of storms, although we have had some doozies recently. Mostly a lot of heavy wind and rain. I'm getting sick of it, honestly.

We can get sick of it, tired of it, or try to run from it, but none of those reactions will ever change the weather. It does exactly what it wants to do, when it wants to do it! As has been said, this too shall pass...I bet before long it will be over 100 degrees with no relief in site and we will all be moaning about our AC bill! That seems to be how life goes!

@porwest Usually by late August, everyone is sick of being hot and sticky, and can't wait for fall temperatures. Then as soon as Christmas is over, they want it to be spring. I think none of us are truly satisfied with the weather for very long.

Our weather has been quite benign recently. I’m hoping to experience the partial eclipse this morning, but it’s a bit cloudy. Power is often lost in the UK during storms, mainly due to fallen trees. I don’t know why they don’t keep the power lines clear of trees so it doesn’t happen? Luckily, loss of electric is rare here, but causes great concern when it does happen. Everything relies on electricity, and we are lost without it. I hope Sunday passes without anymore power issues for you.

@MarieCoyle Same here. The towns and cities are underground cables, but out in the sticks, there are many miles of overhead cables, often running alongside tree-lined roads. A recipe for disaster imo.

My particular area has the electrical lines underground. However, there is farm/rural areas all around us, and many places have above ground electric lines everywhere, so it can affect us at times when certain ones are damaged or go down from storms. Every weekend lately has been stormy. It's weird. If we don't get hit by Sunday, it seems to hit that day...luckily, no damage right here in my spot, but there has been damage from the storms close by recently. And one tornado got very close, but it moved on and unfortunately another rural area and destroyed some buildings, etc.

@Orson_Kart It certainly is. I wish they were all underground, but I can see that would be a huge task.

@MarieCoyle You're funny. I have to get my full 8 hours of sleep a night, otherwise it increases the chances of having a seizure, and I've been taking medication to allow me to be controlled since I was 16, so sleep is a given for me.

@Juliaacv Yes, you do have to get enough rest. Seizures can get really serious, really fast.

What is this mysterious thing called sleep that you speak of? Hahaha...I took a one hour nap earlier after we got back home. Tomorrow I hope to not have to do a lot, but we shall see.

If it has to happen, I wish it would happen in the daytime, but somehow that's rarely the way it works. We are supposed to get off and on storms all weekend, I guess time will tell.
