Not very happy at the moment

At our house-sit, I’ve been working with my computer on my knee with a power cord running back to the wall. Tonight, Vince walked between me and the wall, caught the cord in his foot and pulled the computer off my lap.
It’s working okay but all my photos were on an external hard drive and now the drive seems to be damaged and I can’t access my photos. When we get back to Perth, we’ll take it to a professional and see if they can save the photos. I haven’t backed them up for a while which is pretty stupid too.
So the photo is one of Vince’s of a banksia. I really, really hope my photos can be recovered.

They look like old microphones... or bottle brushes gone bad.

He does feel bad. If we can recover them all will be well but it will be a bit of a blow if they've gone forever.

@BarBaraPrz Yes, the old mikes did look a bit like these.

@JudyEv Unless the thumb drive was broken in half or the insert part of it broken completely off, a professional should be able to retrieve most of the photos from it. There still might be some corruption in the pixels but I hope not.

That would be so very frustrating. I hope you can recover them.

Oh no! I hope your photos can be retrieved. I have an automatic backup service. That's a cool banksia.

Vince has that too but we hadn't got around to doing that with mine. We will in future.

I'm sure sorry. We have had mishaps with computers before, it's just not ever convenient or fun. Hopefully, your pictures can be recovered.

I asked my son for you. Computers are his thing...he said more than likely the pictures can be retrieved. I hope that is the case for you!

Oh no, that sounds so stressful—I’m really sorry that happened. It’s one of those moments that just unfolds in a split second, and suddenly everything feels up in the air. I totally get how heartbreaking it must be to lose access to your photo collection, especially if they hold special memories. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the backup thing—we’ve all been there, thinking we’ll get to it “soon.” Hopefully the professionals in Perth can work some magic and recover everything for you. Sending good thoughts that your photos are safe and just waiting to be rescued!

Oh that is quite bad.
At times, I get extra attentive when someone passes close to my laptop.
I think while being that cautious is on the fringes of ridicule approach, it is worth it.
I hope that the Professional could recover files, as not all sectors within a Hard Drive (External or Internal ) are bad.
So the content on the still good sectors would hopefully be recoverable.
