Tornadoes!

As you all know we have had a lot of severe weather, tornado watches, and tornado warnings and tornadoes touching down all around where I live for the last 5 weeks. There have also been a lot of tornadoes in our sister states, so I was curious to see just how many more were hitting this year. The results I found were astonishing! So far in 2025: 430 tornadoes have been reported across the United States so far this year. That's well above the year-to-date average of 250. The Plains have had far fewer tornadoes than average this year. Here's the tornado count per state: Mississippi 81 (My home state) Missouri 55 Illinois 45 Alabama 40 Arkansas 29 Indiana 27 Louisiana 21 Texas 20 Kentucky 19 Tennessee 19 Georgia 14 Oklahoma 12 Michigan 10 Ohio 10 Pennsylvania 8 California 4 Florida 4 North Carolina 3 South Carolina 2 Kansas 2 Iowa 1 Virginia 1 South Dakota 1 New Mexico 1 Idaho 1 Are you surprised by these statistics? I sure was! We are only 3.25 months into this year! Source: Iweathernet.Com Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

Is it sad that I take comfort in the fact Florida seems to have been spared? But, given this crazy weather I wish I were surprised.

This is a long list. Indeed, the weather now adays can't be that predictable.

I'm trying! Not getting the bad weather north Mississippi is getting late this evening so lucked out there. However, we are on the weekend side of storms. Still waiting to see if this will be weekend #6 here!

That's quite an extensive list. At least for this year, tornado alley does not have the storms all to themselves.

Wow, those numbers are truly staggering—especially this early in the year! I'm honestly just grateful to be living in a place where tornadoes are rare. My heart goes out to everyone in the high-risk areas—stay safe and prepared!

I saw this posted on Facebook last night...we have been spared by the tornados that have hit in Indiana, though one hit only about two miles from where I live.

I'm glad none have hit close to my city... But that is a lot of them for this early in the year. That's also a lot for just my home state of Missouri.

Ohio had a very high number of them last spring and then things calmed down. Hopefully it calms down this year

This figure is terrible. It seems the tornadoes happen more often than before. The earthquake also happens a lot lately.

I'm glad our section of Ohio very rarely gets a twister. Knock on wood.

That's a big number and it's only the fourth month. It seems like natural calamities are becoming more frequent in recent times across the globe. Stay safe.
