Buying Easter Candy

This looked interesting to me and I thought I would share. Especially for those of you who will be buying chocolate bunnies this Easter. It apparently is not all about just choosing the cutest ones you can find.
Each bunny should be checked particularly first by sight. If the chocolate does not look nice a brown and is a bit off color than that is not what you want. Look at the ingredients because if they have fillers like palm oil or soy lecithin the chocolate will have a chalky texture. It is a sure sign the company is cutting costs and not creating a pure chocolate confection.
All food products list ingredients in order of quantity, so if you see that sugar or sweeteners come first the candy probably has very little real cacao added.
Does it smell like chocolate?
The best chocolates have few ingredients and mostly cacao to make a creamy chocolate tasting bunny.
What can you expect to spend?
Consumers should expect to pay between $5 and $7 for a mid-range 60-gram bar of chocolate, with $8 being on the premium end. Anything below $4 is likely lower quality.

@RasmaSandra I still don't have my head wrapped around what we're having for Easter. If I make sugar cookies, then I should cut back on the candy and on I go. Main course? Don't know.

@AmbiePam you don't eat any kind of chocolate?

@RasmaSandra I will eat it, but only if someone gives some to me. I don’t buy it myself. My sister is the same way. My mom loved chocolate, but she said during both of her pregnancies when she’d eat chocolate we’d start kicking like crazy, as if protesting.

I see the Easter candy when I'm shopping but I'm honestly not tempted. For holidays requiring desserts or treats like bunnies, chocolate Santa's, etc. the kids always just tell me to please bake cookies, because they would rather have those. I am glad to oblige.

That's all good to know, and makes sense with the price. Sometimes the cheaper chocolate is good though because of the nostalgia...reminds me of when I was a kid lol

That is so funny! I haven't had a chocolate bunny in ages. Well actually, it might not have been that long. I think I got some went I went up to my hometown for Easter a couple of years ago.

This is really good information! I didn't know any of that but it's really useful. I'll be checking my chocolate more carefully in future. I don't usually worry about Easter chocolate. There is usually better value in buying regular bars or whatever.
