The Silent Ones.

They sneak up on you with no warning -- usually their annoying whine or buzz would alert the intended victim that an attack is imminent . Not so with this breed of mosquitoes that have been harassing me over the past weeks - these are the silent ones. They operate like thieves in the night - except that these invaders strike mostly during the day. I would be sitting in my deck chair or on my sofa working on my laptop - and they show up. If l happen to glance at my arm or leg l will see one or two preparing to take a bite. I have never liked wearing long sleeves but l will have to start doing so if l don't get rid of these pests in a hurry. My days are uncomfortable and less productive. Thankfully they are not this bad most of the year - only when it has rained a lot. I am thinking of ways to outsmart or get rid of them permanently - any ideas? Which insects do you find most annoying?

Can't you get some kind of flying insect trap like Zevo? Here, it's the ants. They can be a big problem here. I am trying to keep them from coming in

For sometime now l have been using the kind that you light and the smoke fills the air. However their effect has definitely worn off and l stopped using them anyway. That smoke can't be good for health.

They do not like the smell of vicks, if you can stand the smell try putting some on your arms and legs it might keep them at bay for a while.

The only thing I used to do was wear silk clothing covering my body entirely..here we do not get much mosquito activity but when I lived South..there were lots. Also there is a product called Avon Skin So Soft..that used to work.

I had to look up the name, yellow jackets cone from the family of wasps - and the sting is very painful. I too would run very fast.

Mosquitoes and flies. For mosquitoes, I use the repelling lotion if I cannot get rid of them after cleaning drainage.

I hate mosquitos but we normally only have problems with them if water is standing in the drainage ditches/culverts in our back yard... We've had so much rain lately that the water is still running so mosquitos can't breed there yet. When mosquitos get bad here, I pour oil into the ditches and culverts here. That keeps new ones from hatching since they can't break through the oily film on the water and keeps the adults from laying new eggs in the water.

@Kandae11 They breed anywhere they can find access to standing water. You can try different scents to keep them away from you. Vinegar seems to work well but stay away from any sweet scent. That will draw mosquitos right to you.

We haven't hit mosquito season yet but for days I had a fly that was as annoying as heck. It escaped being killed and nearly drove me crazy with it's constant buzzing around my head. Finally my daughter was able to kill it and peace was restored

My nephew made something which he saw on Youtube - a mixture of sugar and yeast in a liquid. After three days it seems to be working, but l can't be sure if it is that or because the rains have stopped for several days now.

All our houses have fly-screens which keep out most of the mosquitoes thankfully. They are bad outside but only in some areas.

Ugghh... the most annoying for me are mosquitoes too especially i'm a mosquito magnet. I always were an insect repellant lotion and I also have this mosquito repellant patches that you stick to clothes to keep them away. At home, we always make sure there is no stagnant water whatsoever that could be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. But sometimes this pesky suckers hide also in plants and bushes.

The patches sound like a great idea, since l have sensitive skin. Sometimes the pests seem to appear from nowhere.
