It’s a soulful day today! In addition to the song that came from 1960, it’s another Motown R&B classic for 1965. What a great year for Motown that was!!! Pretty good year for music all around. And that was 60 years ago now. Wow. Sing along with this one.
Stop! In the Name of Love - The Supremes
Lamont Dozier said that iconic chorus (“Stop! In the name of love! Before you break my heart!”) to his girlfriend in an argument. That goes to show just how great a songwriter he was along with the Holland brothers. It also shows you to watch what you say around a preacher and a songwriter.
(Bill Anderson said he got the idea for the song “I’ve Enjoyed As Much of This As I Can Stand” when a friend pushed himself back from the dinner table after eating too much and uttering those words.)
It’s one of the classics of music, period. Never mind Motown, or the 60s, or R&B. It’s an all-time great.

I find it amazing to see the things that prompted some of the best songs ever.

@FourWalls There really is no way to guess what's going to make the big time.

Yes, this one was played a lot at the skating rinks, too.

So much of their music…well, all of Motown, for that matter, is classic!

Definitely an all-time great. Diana Ross has had a long career, but I haven’t heard from her for a while. She is also famous for missing the MASSIVE goal when taking a penalty at the opening ceremony of the 1994 World Cup.

Which reiterates the saying, “Stick to singing.”
(That’s on YouTube if you need to relive the hilarity.)

Hot dog, you’re smoking it this month (except for the country songs, which I understand).

The only thing I can think of to not like is how they couldn’t get along in later years.
