Earlier this month I had a visual treat for the guys with that Whipped Cream and Other Delights album cover. And now, to close out the alphabetical list of 1965 songs, a visual treat for the ladies!
A rather appropriate song, too. Here’s today’s song that’s now 60.
What’s New, Pussycat? - Tom Jones
Oh, look, Burt Bacharach and Hal David are back. (They wrote yesterday’s song, “What the World Needs Now.”) This was the theme to a movie (I used it in my movie themes countdown in 2023). The plot was a guy who had so many girlfriends that he couldn’t remember their names, so he just called everybody “Pussycat.”
Oooh, Tom Jones. That was One. Handsome. Fella. Ooooh. Gotta tell ya, too, for someone who’s about to hit 85, Sir Tom is still pretty nice looking! (Sorry, Prince William, but Tom’s the real “prince” of Wales!
)
He’s done just about everything in his illustrious career…even had a #1 country hit (1977’s “Say You’ll Stay Until Tomorrow”)!
Here’s to Sir Tom!

@FourWalls I think @NJChicaa sings it to her cat every night:
“Pussycat, Pussycat, I love you
Yes I do.
You and your Pussycat nose.

Burt did a lot of good ones. Tom, with his looks and sexy voice. Goodness.

Engelbert Humperdinck always struck me as a Tom Jones wannabe. Not even close.

Guy goes to the doctors and says, “Doc, I can’t stop singing “What’s New Pussycat”. Can you help me?”
Doc says, “I think you’ve got Tom Jones Syndrome”
Guy says, “Is it common?”
Doc says, “It’s not unusual”

Understand. No one has a universally loved song.

Me too. I saw Warren Zevon once and he did “What’s New, Pussycat” as an encore. Laughed my butt off.

I did some seasonal work at UPS, checking semi drivers in and out. In training, I mentioned to the new women that some of the drivers would say “babe” or “hon,” and not to take it personally. Many women in America consider it an “insult” to use those words.

@FourWalls Sometimes, when you know the person, you just have to shrug it off.

Most of the older generation who listened to English songs know Tom Jones. This song was popular.

I loved watching him dance around to this on his TV show in the late 60s.
