Do you believe it is safe to bank online?

Is it safe to bank online? If you do bank online, is it with your local bank or do you use a larger online banking company? I have used online banking with my local bank but don't know if I feel secure to use a totally online banking company. I like the idea of being able to call my bank reps that I know face to face if I have a question. Also, if I have a problem, it's easier for me to feel safe getting it fixed face to face.

I've been doing all of my banking online for the past 5 yrs, and nothing's ever happened, so i'd say it's safe until i'm proven contrary. I hate those long lineups at the bank, so online banking is very practical I find.

Lineups are such a drag. Especially at the drive-thru bank, and my husband hasn't even worked up to that yet!!

My wife and i do banking online with one of our local banks, this way if we have a problem that needs a face to face the bank is only 20 minutes away. We pay bills, buy things from the internet, check statements and transfer money online and in my eyes it is safe, It is necessary to have antivirus, popup blockers and a firewall installed on your pc. I take some other precautions as well e.g. i dont type in my account number or password, i copy and paste from a document on my pc (this way if i do have a hacker and they use a key logger then there are no keystrokes to log) but mainly i would recommend online banking.

My husband and I do all of our banking online. I can't remember the last time I wrote a check for anything. It is so easy to pay bills and not worry about them going through the mail and getting there on time. I have never had a problem with it and feel that it is very safe.

I agree, I do as many things automatically as I can. I am just having trouble convincing my hubby that it's ok.

i've been internet banking for nearly 2 years now and i can say that i've had no problems what so ever. it's so easy to keep track on what goes in and out as u can check your statements online 24 hours a day and if something does go wrong, you are nearly always protected

My bet is you are under 40, maybe under 30 and never stood in a long line to go to the teller. You know, when I was young, we walked 10 miles each way to do our banking, in the snow, in July, uphill both ways!!

I have 3 different bank accounts. One is totally online. I haven't had any problems with it as of yet. One of the others is in another state and there aren't any local branches so I handle everything for that one online. Even my local one I handle online. Just seems so much easier for me.

online banking - This photo shows the online banking
Online banking generally depends upon the bank since we have to know their safety measures and SSL security system. As well as if something wrong has happened in online banking then the bank should be responsible for that issue for an extent.

It is safe to bank online as long as you make sure that you are checking the accounts regularly and you are looking for any suspicious activity.

Yes, I think it's safe to bank online. I use my local bank because I feel the same as you about a totally online banking company. We know the people at our bank also (16 years there), and that makes a difference to me. But it sure is nice to be able to do so many things online now...things we couldn't do just a few years ago.

HELLLOOOO!!!! especially if they would have looked at my banking!! anywho..the net is the most dangerous place on earth..that why i get prepaid debit mastercards and put very little on them just to buy online.//.just in case!

I understand why you feel the way you do, although the majority of people disagree with you. The same thing happened to my mother in law for 15,000 dollars. The banking card was stolen and they didn't cancel it even though they said they did. The theft took place over 6 months and the bank never caught it until a rent check bounced. Then the banking insurance got out of paying the whole theft back by only paying the difference between what was left in her account with what was in her account the day before the theft started. This didn't even come close to the total amount lost because they didn't count her monthly income from her pension. It made me so mad. However, this was not from phone or computer banking, it was from a bank card. They never let her have a bank card after that and since. I once had a credit card stolen. The card company called me within a couple hours of my losing it and asked me to check my wallet. It wasn't there of course and the thief had already maxxed out the card. They had me sign some statements and made me check a list of transactions to see what was mine and what wasn't. They never did make me pay the thief's purchases and gave me a new account number.

I used to bank online but then the bank I was with goofed up some deposits and it was a nightmare to get it corrected. Now I just go to the bank once a month and deposit our checks. I don't like going into the bank just because you never know who is in there and what could happen (especially during the holidays) so we always go through the drive throug

I have had people call me and claim to be my bank. As soon as they identify themselves they call me by name and then they say, Can you please identify yourself by giving us your address and phone number. NO WAY BUDDY. I will never give info to them. I always say, you tell me what you have there and I will verify it. If they won't do it, then they are for sure not the bank. I have reported these scammers to my bank. Apparently I am not the only one it has ever happened to. These are people that call me instead of me calling telephone banking. No way you should ever give information to people who call you out of the blue when they are already supposed to have it.
