I will be spending less time on Mylot for the next few days. My projects await me. I am making most of the Christmas gifts by hand this year. Homemade gifts are always welcomed by many and appreciated more than a store bought gift. What type of gifts do you make? Do you make any of your gifts?

One year my brother hand stenciled A.A. Milne's 100 Acre Wood and coloured it in and gave it to my father in a picture frame because when we were little my dad hand painted one entire bedroom wall with the same images. My dad was quite moved by that, too bad my brother was home that year to see my dad's face.

I have made Ukrainian eggs for some gifts. People are surprised that they are real eggs blown out. My mother collect pandas and I made an egg with a panda with bamboo. She has it in a small glass case on a pedestal for displaying with all her other panda nick nacks. She loves that fact that she has a one of a kind! :)
Last year I painted a copy of a comic for my partner that he loves called Cry for Dawn. He has Cry for Dawn comics on the wall in the billiard room, so this painting fit nicely on an empty space.
So yes, I like to make presents for people.

These are easy to make lollipops.
You need a 2x2 3' stick and a round piece of wood. You can buy these at lowes or Home depot already cut. I couldn't find a picture of the 2x2 but I think everyone knows what they look like.
Paint the stick and the round disc white with outdoor paint. Then nail the stick to the back of the round disc. Make sure you use two finishing nails so the disc will stay put.
Now you need to bring it to life as a lollipop. Cover the round disc with colored cellophane.
I buy it in 40" x 100' rolls at sams club. Make sure you cut it large enought to cover the entire disc in one sheet and leave enough to hang at the bottom. I use a rubberband to gather it under the disc. Then tie a pretty ribbon around it a wala a lollipop.
So I don't break the wood trying to pound it in the ground I take a 1'- 2' piece of pvc pipe and pound it in the ground then just slide the lollipop into the ground.
Here is a picture of the done project.
I put these wherever there is enough lights to help light them up or you can run clear lights up the pole and that will light it up. Use the 20 light strands when you do that and you won't have a lot of extra lights.

What a wonderful idea! I will have to tell the hubby about this one. It would be a great project to make and sell at craft shows.

What kind of gifts do you make? I think it is great that you spend time on this. Alot of us do not have the time and some do not have the creativity. My mother use to make quilts.. And my sister knitts blankets. I use to make hair accessories and decorated t-shirts. Now the best I do is food baskets, I love to bake and put it togheter. I agree with you, homemade gifts do make an impression.. Hurry back

I too make hair accessories! I love to knit and make sweaters for the grandkids. Last year I crocheted each of the grandkids an afghan. This year I have crocheted afghans for my boys. I am also making scented bath salts, candles and bean bag games for the kids. I have several patterns for clothes for the grandkids too that I am making this weekend. My kids will get flannel sleep pants (a project that I started a last year and ran out of time). I found some panels to make into pillows for the grandkids. They were on sale for $1 each! Love a bargain. I found some material at the Good Cents Store that I am using to make remote control holders to hang over the arm of a couch. Frugal is good, homemade is great!

I love homemade gifts. Last year I was without income as I was battling cancer. With zero income I knew I had to be very creative. I ended up making CD Clocks, with each of the kids' hockey teams on the face. I 'purchased' books via paperback swap, which means basically free, for each of them. And I used my gift cards that I got paid for doing online stuff to purchase the rest.
My kids still say that last year was our best Christmas ever... and it came with no real store gifts.

i buy unique gifts that don't cost much in department stores. i admire your creativity. i wish i have that kind of talent, too. homemade gifts are always so special because you know the person who made them spent a lot of effort and time, so they become more meaningful.

I do always try to make gifts if I can. Some people laugh, but I've found that family prefers to have handmade gifts, especially from the kids. It's fun to make stuff and the kids are so proud. This year I am making quilts for my girls. My oldest loves dolphins and my middle one loves frogs. Just try to find quilts with THOSE themes! LOL good luck and have fun.

I am envious of anyone that can quilt. I have tried, but wasn't satisfied with the outcome. I am too much a perfectionist and for some reason I can never get the squares to line up.

I usually make a number of gifts, hope to get busy with whatever we will do this next week. I have had rehearsals all week for a Christmas musical, so I have not thought much about Christmas--contradictory, huh? Two performanced Sunday--and that will be after singing in two church services. I need to do something with angels for my daughter in law, who has a birthday on Christmas.

I once bought a lot of items from gift stores and craft shows. Then I realized I could make the items myself for a lot less. I gradually bought the items that I would need to make a variety of items. Now I have boxes of supplies that are there whenever I feel the need to create.

I think it's great that you are making the gifts yourself!
I am usually buying presents and give something selfmade as well. Usually I write poems or draw something. Sometimes I am even writing a story especially for that person but I can just do that when I am inspired.
May I ask what you are making yourself?
