Is the life of an Indian citizen so cheap and of no value?

PIZZAS that kill!!! Recently in The Times of India there was an article / advertisement about Pizza delivery Companies which guarantees you free pizza if they fail to deliver within the specified time (like 30 minutes). Have you ever wondered who pays for the free pizzas?? Well, the delivery boy is made to pay for the pizza. They are paid such low wages and the price of the pizza is deducted from their monthly wages which can amount to upto 60% in some months (It becomes difficult to run their family). To deliver the pizzas the delivery boys take high traffic risks as delivery becomes their priority. Their life and safety risks are neither looked into by the Pizza Shop Management nor the Pizza Delivery Boy himself. (They are more concerned to avoid the deduction from their salary). If this type of exploitation is carried on in your city's pizza logistics we should stop availing the home delivery system, because to deliver our pizza one person may be risking his life. Is the life of an Indian citizen so cheap and of no value? In case he is late in delivering the pizza, we are enjoying the free pizza at the hard earned money of a poor delivery boy. Is it fair or right on our part to do it?

Traffic Light - Traffic light
They used to do this here in the U.S. with Domino's Pizza. (it wasn't free just a discount I think) But one delivery driver killed someone in an accident, the family Sued and Domino's changed their policy, Now it takes about an hour to get my darn pizza! All kidding aside, I saw a you tube video of traffic in India. That is crazy! haven't you guys heard of traffic lights?

I remember this, there were a number of accidents by delivery people trying to beat the time limit. I don't know much about traffic in India, but I would agree that Pizza Delivery Guarantee + Lack of Traffic Lights = Disaster!

It's very wrong i feel.. ofcourse i agree that they are given us a good service by telling that if they don't reach us in time the pizza is free but deducting from his salary is bad...

Wait a minute , i know which pizza outlit you are talking about , i once ordered from their, the delivery guy was late, , i got the pizza free, so i asked him do you ultimately have to pay for the pizza, he said no! so i just tipped him 20 bucks, if you read the delivery menu/catalogue properly where they say that 30 minutes otherwise its free , they have categorically mentioned that the in the case the pizza is deliverd after 30 minutes , then under no condition will the delivery guy pay for it.

all life is of value, nationality has nothing to do with it. Companies are greedy and will get away with whatever they can if it makes them money. The only way this can be prevented is for governments to legislate against commercial practice where people get hurt in the hunt to increase profit

I have also read this article today..They said that they do this for publicity and in no case they charge the money from the pay...Someone also said that once a accident had occured and they had paid all the medical expenses for that guy.... I think it is a really a bad site of our society who loves to have the pizzas free even knowing that the guy had to risk his life in order to deliver the pizzas...And this otherside of the society ,,we have to accept it...nothing can be changed untill and unless every individual tries to change....

well are you sure that the pizza delivery boy is made to pay for the pizza or are you trying to make the topic more sensational and emotional.because in the brochure of a pizza outlet who had the 30 minutes free offer,it was clearly stated that they do not penalise or charge the delivery boy if the fail to deliver the pizza on time. on the other note,if you feel sorry for such incident ,then when ordering simply say that you dont want to avail the 30 minutes or free offer.that should take care of the dellivery boys risks.

Pizzas are delivered all over the world and I haven't heard anything like that before. I think you overreacting. Why the pizza boy would accept to get pay deduction due to traffic? I think it's the pizza boy's fault that is accepting such behaviour. Chane job, if you don't like it! But the truth is that indeed delivery persons all over the world (no matter if they deliver pizza or packages) they risk their lives. So, let's give them, people, a break!

Oh Gosh. This is simply atrocious. Is this really true? I don't believe this. Yes. I've seen this delivery boys riding their bikes like crazy, paying no heed to safety or traffic rules. Now i know the reason.

though most of the time when i had pizza's would be in a restaurant, never knew the delivery boy had to pay for the pizza if it is not delivered in time, i think how can they held the delivery boy 100% responsible and make him pay for the pizza from his salary, i think the pizza company must be contributing something.

well i think it may be possible that the service provider managemnet provides more money to boys for this and then if not they deduct ! also if it is so much tedious job and loosing their earning they should kick off such type of jobs ! i think indian labour law still exists in india ! so they can go their if major problem occurs !

really? i didn't know the late pizza was charged to the delivery boy. in the philippines there are also many pizza branches that promise the same thing, although we all think that if you get the pizza for free that will be charged to the company. i think that should be the case. in India if it works like that then maybe nobody would want to be a delivery person anymore.

no ones life is cheap... and no one will continue to deliver a pizza if he has to pay from his pockets. normally the company has made the survey and has the points in an location which can be covered in 30 mins. Traffic situation is uncontrollable but everyone knows what is the rush hour and that definately is not the pizza time

well indians work for about 5 cents per hour if that is not cheap then what is they can only blame themselves for not wanting better conditions or better wages

I don't exactly understand what you mean - your drift is quite confusing, but let me try to paraphrase- no person would be so stupid to agree to a deal like that and its just a kind of publicity to the issue? If this is what you mean, I have a huge argument to make cos I know for a fact, people - mostly from India and also the sub-continent are constantly flocking to Gulf countries to make what they think are hefty salaries. Since the number of people who have grabbed this "opportunity to work abroad" has resulted in the supply exceeding demand, they are forced to work in horrid conditions and they choose to do that rather than return (the reason they do is beyond me) In the process of making compromises to continue staying in the Gulf, they end up working illegally/ 16-18 hours a day/ without weekends, with constant risk to limb and life/ proper living conditions/ without even salaries sometimes, so yes people do take that chance and I think its stupid.

Wel if this is in fact true, there is no need to boycott the home delivery service, just pay the delivery guy anyway! Easy fixed!

I too heard of this exploitations carried by these companies. I hate that. The company should think of the mutual benefit marketing ideas to solve this kind of problems for the staff and workers.

I can't help but think of Spiderman 2, when Peter Parker is told that if he fails to deliver the pizza within half hour, the customers get it for free and he is then fired. I'm so sorry to hear about this situation. It puts the delivery person in danger of their life and makes everything more stressful
